    • A spool fixation device for use in a wire winding installation, where in this spool fixation device, spools having a magnetically attractable flange are held to a rotatable flange using magnet assemblies. The magnet assemblies can be switched between a ‘hold’ state and a ‘release’ state. In a preferred embodiment the magnet assemblies only consume energy when in the ‘release’ state i.e. when the spool fixation device is not rotating. Alternatively the magnet assemblies can be made to only consume energy when switching states. The magnet assemblies have permanent magnet arrays and are moveable inside a non-magnetic housing. Also a drive pin to transfer torque between rotatable flange and spool is no longer necessary. Therefore the spool fixation devices allows for a smooth changeover of spools.

    • A technique for maintaining tension on fiber drawn from a spindle includes incorporating a permanent magnet brake into a spindle and controlling tension of fiber paid out from the spindle by rotating an adjustment plate of the permanent magnet brake with a motor. In some examples, a motor (e.g., a stepper motor) is coupled to the adjusting plate of the permanent magnet motor through a set of gears, a timing belt, or a similar transmission medium. Mechanical advantage afforded through gear reduction allows a very small motor to control a large amount of braking torque. Motor control may be accomplished for multiple spindles with little power.

    • Disclosed is a bobbin fixing apparatus. The bobbin fixing apparatus includes a rotating shaft installed to a mounting plate and provided with a fixing unit partially protruding from the rotating shaft so as to be inserted into the rotating shaft, and a bobbin on or from which an object is wound or unwound, the bobbin being placed on the rotating shaft such that the fixing unit is exposed in front of the bobbin. The bobbin includes a rotating body, a plurality of bobbin members on which an object is wound, and an end coupler configured to be operated upon receiving pressure when the bobbin is placed on the rotating shaft, the end coupling serving to keep an end of the object in a fixed position on the rotating shaft during winding or to release the end of the object from the fixed position during unwinding.

    • The wire caddy is designed to hold single or multiple spools of electrical wire commonly used in the building trades. This device allows wire spools to be inserted onto a support shaft and retained onto the support shaft by insertion of a retaining pin through retaining pin holes in the end of the support shaft. Wire is guided off the spool through a guide hole in the support bracket.The diameter of the support shaft is smaller than the diameter of the wire spool end plate center holes. The center line of the support shaft is positioned higher than the center line of the wire spool end plate holes. This creates a gap between the bottom of the support shaft and the edge of the wire spool hole. Thereby the wire spool is resting on and supported by the friction plate, and not the support shaft. Upon applying an upward pulling force, the wire spool is lifted off the friction plate allowing for uncoiling of the wire. Once the pulling force is stopped, the weight of the wire spool will force the wire spool end plates down onto a friction plate that will stop the turning momentum of the wire spool, causing the wire spool to stop quickly. By stopping the turning momentum quickly, turns of wire on the spool will not uncoil themselves thus preventing entanglement with each other.

    • A base of a spool support system has a central extent with a short leg and a long leg. A cylindrical rod is secured to the long leg and has a free end facing toward the short leg. A spool retention component supported on the rod has an interior end adapted to contact the spool. A cylindrical aperture in the short leg is axially aligned with the rod and is adapted to receive and guide thread fed to a sewing machine from a spool. A guide rod fabricated of a relatively stiff material has a looped end and a short bent end. A short recess extends laterally into the base frictionally supporting the short bent end of the guide rod.
