    • A crank arm of a bicycle having an effective crank arm length that can be selectively adjusted for increasing the comfort and performance of the rider. The crank arm includes a crank arm member rotatably connected about a crank arm member rotational axis to a base member. The base member includes a spindle bore defining a spindle rotational axis, which is eccentric with respect to the crank arm member rotational axis. The opposite end of the crank arm member includes a pedal bore defining a pedal rotational axis. The crank arm further includes a fastener to selectively couple the base member to the crank arm member for rotation therewith.

    • A device is provided for range adjusting bicycle pedals in a bicycle having a frame with a crank hub, a drive sprocket and drive chain. The device consists of a crank axle extending through the crank hub, with the drive sprocket mounted on the crank axle to operate the drive chain. A pair of crank arms extend in opposite directions from the crank axle. A pair of pedals are provided. A structure is for mounting each pedal in an adjustable manner to each crank arm, so as to change the distance of the pedals to the crank axle. Someone who cannot fit on a standard bicycle properly, such as a child, an adult and an elderly person that has limited knee, hip and ankle movement, can still pedal the bicycle. In addition, status-post surgical patients would also benefit from the range adjusting device. In a modification the crank arms are adjustable to the crank axle instead of the pedals to the crank arms.

    • A pedal crank has a throw adjuster comprised of two triangular frames in opposed relationship to a common triangular base that is variable in length. A pedal crank is formed with a peak of a proximal triangular frame attached to a crank axle and a peak of a distal triangular frame attached to a pedal axle. A fixed side of the proximal triangular frame is attached rigidly to the crank axle and a floating side of the proximal triangular frame is attached rotationally to the crank axle. A fixed side of the distal triangular frame is attached rigidly to the pedal axle and a floating side of the distal triangular frame is attached rotationally to the pedal axle. The fixed side of the proximal triangular frame and the fixed side of the distal triangular frame are attached to opposite ends of the common triangular base. Both sides of both triangles are attached pivotally to the common triangular base that is variable in length with a screw shaft, a fluid-operated cylinder, or other length-adjustment means. In an exerciser embodiment, the crank axle is in chain drive relationship to an electrical, fluid or frictional resistor of rotation that is variable in rotational resistance. A calibrator of throw length is positioned parallel to the common base.

    • A crank mechanism is provided which has a first driven member constituted by a first shaft, and a second driven member constituted by a sleeve member-disposed around said first shaft. The sleeve member is retained in support means such that the sleeve member and the first shaft can rotate relatively to one another. A rotating arm is connected to the sleeve member, and attachment means is slidable along said rotating arm. First linkage means is provided between said attachment means and said first shaft, and second linkage means is provided between said sleeve member and said first shaft, whereby said attachment means can selectively describe any of a range of circular or elliptical paths. In the preferred embodiment, the linkage means are adjustable and include a counter-rotating arm associated with said first shaft, and a second shaft and a third shaft and gears associated therewith and with said first shaft, which gears transmit rotational movement from said first shaft to said sleeve member. The invention is easily adaptable for physical therapy applications and for use as a drive mechanism for a bicycle.

    • An extender for removable attachment to the lower end of and for extending the length of a conventional bicycle pedal crank and adjustably lowering the bicycle pedal relative to the bicycle seat. The extender is formed of an elongated channel shaped to receive the lower end portion of a conventional pedal crank with the upper end of the extender shaped to spring grip the crank. The lower end of the extender is formed with a threaded socket to receive and threadedly engage the threaded mounting stud of a conventional bicycle pedal. The base of the extender channel is formed with a longitudinally elongated slot for overlapping the conventional pedal stud receiving opening formed in the lower end of the crank. A bolt fits through the slot and the crank pedal stud receiving opening to lock the extender in longitudinally adjustable positions upon the crank.

    • A drive assembly for a physically propelled vehicle such as a bicycle having a crank arm operatively connected to a drive member rotatively mounted on a drive axis for rotating the drive member, and a one-way clutch connecting an advance-crank arm to the crank arm for pivotal movement of the advance-crank arm relative to the crank arm in only one direction. A resilient spring interconnects the connector and the advance-crank arm. The connector transmits the turning force to a pivot between the connector and advancecrank arm upon application of sufficient pedal force to overcome a predetermined loading of the resilient spring, the turning force being automatically transferred from the crank arm pin to the pivot of the advance-crank arm, and being automatically transferred back to the crank arm pin upon further rotation of the crank arm and advance-crank arm as the loading of the resilient spring balances and overcomes the pedal force. When the predetermined loading of the resilient spring is overcome, a change in the angle between the connector and advance-crank arm is achieved.
