    • A vehicle seat assembly includes a seat back that is supported with respect to a seat bottom. The seat bottom is supported on a track assembly that includes a seat adjuster for controlling movement of the seat back and bottom. The seat adjuster can move the seat in horizontal and/or vertical directions and can also be used to adjust the tilt of the seat. An electric motor is used to drive the seat adjuster. The motor supports a first connector and the seat adjuster supports a second connector. A flexible shaft is used to interconnect the first and second connectors to transmit power from the motor to the adjuster. The shaft has a first end and a second end with each of the ends defined by a helical body portion. The first connector and the first end are mated to interconnect the motor and the shaft and the second connector and the second end are mated to interconnect the seat adjuster and the shaft. The helical body portion of the first and second ends is twisted with respect to the first and second connectors such that there is a slight interference fit between the ends and the connectors. The use of the helical body to create the interference fit allows for easy assembly of the shaft to the motor and seat adjuster and is quiet in operation.

    • A driving apparatus which is capable of adjusting the forward and backward position and the height of a seat section by using a single motor to reduce the weight of the apparatus and simplify the structure. Nut members are mounted on operating threaded shafts which are rotated in normal or reverse by an electric motor so that the operating threaded shafts go through the nut members. A nut body constituting each nut member is structured so as to be engaged with one of first and second clutch members by a clutch operating member. In the first shift condition where the nut body is engaged with the first clutch body, power is turned on and the nut member moves back and forth relative to the operating threaded shaft. In the second shift condition where the nut is engaged with the second clutch body, power is turned off to hinder the movement of the nut member. The system of the apparatus is arranged so that the first nut members adjust the forward and backward position of the seat section and the second nut member adjusts the heights of the seat at the front and rear ends.

    • A vertical seat adjuster arrangement for vehicle seats includes spaced opposite hand mechanisms, each of which includes a seat support bracket. The rear portions of the brackets are supported to the vehicle by levers which are conjointly rotatable through a screwjack mechanism to raise and lower the rear portions of the brackets. The front portions of the brackets are likewise supported to the vehicle by conjointly rotatable levers. Each bracket mounts a lock plate which is movable between engaged and released positions with respect to a detent mounted to the vehicle in order to lock the front portions of the brackets against movement. Each lock plate includes a series of alternating notches and abutments, with the notches of one locking plate being offset with respect to the other to thereby obtain an increased number of adjusted positions of the brackets relative to the vehicle.

    • A device for varying the vertical separation and relative inclination of two plate members, especially for the seat of an automotive vehicle, in which the two plate members have tandem pairs of bell crank levers pivotally interconnecting the plate members, the lower plate member having the pivot of the bell crank mounted thereon, and the upper plate member having the end of the one of the arms of the bell crank. The adjustment means comprises a mechanism for effecting both relative closure and separation of the points of connection of the levers and the adjustment means can cause pivoting of the levers of a tandem pair relative to the lower plate member, whilst maintaining a fixed separation between the points of connection of the levers and adjustment means. Thus, one can raise and lower the upper plate member on which the seat surface is mounted and/or cause tilting of the upper plate member.
