    • PURPOSE:To enable the temp. control of a molten pool and the shape change thereof, by supplying a large-diameter cold wire to the molten pool formed by feeding electricity to a small-diameter welding wire fed in a welding tip and generating an arc between said wire and the work. CONSTITUTION:The work 3 is welded while the forward end part of a cold wire 5 having a large diameter is disposed in a molten pool 4 formed on the work by generating an arc between a welding wire 2 of a small diameter fed in a tip 1 and the work 3. The rate of melting of the wire 5 is controlled and the temp. of the pool 4 is controlled, whereby the viscosity of the pool 4 is controlled. The position where the wire 5 is disposed in the pool 4 is adequately changed to increase the amt. of the deposited metal in the disposed position whereby the shape of the pool 4 is changed.

    • The invention described herein generally pertains to a system (100, 300, 400) and method related to detecting a change in height during a welding operation and adjusting one or more welding parameters based on such detected change in height. In particular, a change in a height can be related to two or more revolutions on the workpiece (W) in which the change is due to material deposited from the welding operation. Since the material de¬ posited onto the workpiece (W) changes the height of the electrode (32) to the workpiece (W), one or more welding parameters can be adjusted for compensation. Specifically, an electrode speed can be adjusted to compensate for a change in the height, wherein the electrode speed is a rate that the electrode moves adjacent to the workpiece (W).

    • A welding method permits thick pieces of metal (2) to be welded together over the entire face of their touching surfaces during a process of self organizing, single pass arc welding in the ambient air without any special proofing of the welding bath melt. Higher quality and faster welding is achieved by using an insulated stationary consumable electrode (1) clamped between the parts (2) to be welded together and by selection of the value of the electric power applied to the end face of the electrode. The arc (4) has a value of electrical power that is sustained at a level which keeps the pressure of the metal vapor which arises due to vaporization of the electrode (1) material in the welding zone 1.1 to 2.0 times higher than the air pressure. This protects the welding bath metal melt against air oxidation and interaction with other air elements.
