    • Disclosed is a multilayer compensator polymeric film for a LC cell including two or more first type layers having an out-of-plane birefringence not more negative than −0.005 and one or more second type layers having an out-of-plane birefringence more negative than −0.005, wherein the second type layers are amorphous and including selected polymeric materials having sufficient thickness so that the overall in-plane retardation (Re) of the compensator is from 0 to 300 nm and the out-of-plane retardation (Rth) of at least one of the one or more second type layers is more negative than −20 nm wherein: (a) a first type layer is present that is contiguous to a second layer and is between all of the second type layers and all of the other first type layers; (b) at least one of the second type layers or one of the other first type layers is a layer coated from an organic solvent; and (c) the contiguous first type layer contains a polymer that is water soluble or water dispersible in an amount sufficient to impede the diffusion of the organic solvent between the other first type layers and the second type layers.

    • A photographic imaging element is disclosed which comprises a support having on one side thereof at least one silver halide emulsion layer and having, in order, on the opposite side thereof an electrically-conductive layer coated from a coating composition comprising a polythiophene/polyanion composition containing a polythiophene with conjugated polymer backbone component and a polymeric polyanion component, and a protective topcoat comprised of a polyurethane binder which has a tensile elongation to break of at least 50% and a Young's modulus measured at 2% elongation of at least 50000 lb/in2; wherein the electrical resistivity of the electrically-conductive layer before photographic processing is less than 2×109 &OHgr;/□, after photographic processing is between 1×109 &OHgr;/□ and 1×1011 &OHgr;/□, and increases by at least one order of magnitude as a result of photographic processing. Photographic imaging elements of the invention effectively minimize both raw (pre-photographic processing) static marking and processed (after photographic processing) photographic element sticking caused by the accumulation of electrostatic charges, and additionally have excellent resistance to scratch and abrasion.

    • A process for viewing a motion picture film scene image with concurrently displayed subtitle text comprising: providing a motion picture print film comprising a support bearing at least one light sensitive image recording layer and a transparent magnetic recording layer; printing a negative film scene image onto the motion picture print film to form a positive scene image; recording subtitle information in the magnetic recording layer in synchronization with the scene image; projecting the print film scene image for viewing while simultaneously reading the subtitle information recorded in the magnetic recording layer; and converting the subtitle information to text comprising alphanumeric characters and displaying the subtitle text in conjunction with the projected screen image. One or more language subtitles may be recorded onto and read from a transparent magnetic recording layer on a motion picture film in synchronization with the film image. The subtitle information can be recorded prior to the original release of the film during the printing of the film or can be added to the film at a later time, for example, during re-release of the film in a foreign country. Alternatively, a previously recorded subtitle can be changed for re-release of the copy of the film in another country. The positive motion picture film may be displayed using a motion picture film projector equipped with a magnetic head that reads the subtitle information which is then converted to alphanumeric text and displayed in conjunction with the film image.
