    • A method, apparatus and computer program product are provided that continue to obtain the power saving advantages provided by discontinuous reception, while obtaining the measurement samples that are desired during a sampling time period, such as during a time to trigger period, to determine of handover is appropriate. In the context of a method, a measurement sample is caused to be obtained during a discontinuous reception monitoring period. The method may determine that a sampling time period has been commenced based upon a measurement sample. During the sampling time period, one or more additional measurement samples are to be obtained. The method may also determine that the additional measurement samples will not be obtained prior to commencement of the sleep period between monitoring periods and, as a result, cause one or more additional measurement samples to be obtained at respective times that would otherwise have been in the sleep period.

    • A method includes operating a user equipment to initiate monitoring of a control channel associated with a particular component carrier for determining if the user equipment is scheduled by the control channel associated with the particular component carrier. In response to determining that the user equipment is not scheduled, autonomously terminating the monitoring of the control channel associated with the particular component carrier. A further method includes establishing a set of rules defining how and when a user equipment autonomously deactivates use of component carriers transmitted by a network access node. The network access node assumes, in response to the network access node not scheduling the user equipment in a control channel of a particular component carrier for some period, that the user equipment has autonomously deactivated monitoring of the control channel of the particular component carrier. Various apparatus and computer programs are also disclosed that operate in accordance with the methods.

    • Methods and apparatuses are provided for facilitating triggered mobility. A method may include monitoring, at a mobile apparatus, a connection quality associated with a serving cell serving the mobile apparatus. The method may further include determining based at least in part on the monitored connection quality whether a predefined threshold connection quality condition has been satisfied. The predefined threshold connection quality condition may be indicative of potential inter-cell interference from a cell located within a coverage area of the serving cell. In an instance in which it is determined that the predefined threshold connection quality condition has been satisfied, the method may additionally include causing a report indicating that the predefined threshold connection quality condition has been satisfied to be sent to a network node associated with the serving cell. A corresponding apparatus is also provided.

    • Relative sizes of neighbor cells are identified, and measurement reporting of the neighbor cells is differentiated in dependence on at least the relative size. In one embodiment the relative sizes are identified by a frequency layer and/or physical cell identity sent by a serving cell. The differentiated reporting may be implemented by using different values, based on the relative sizes, of a measurement or reporting parameter or a scaling factor (such as Treselection or time to trigger) which adjusts either of those parameters. In one embodiment the differentiated measurement reporting is conditional on a user equipment which sends the measurement reports being classified as fast moving, and in another is further conditional on it also having no active data transfer applications ongoing. In various embodiments, detecting and measuring of small neighbor cells (and thus their reporting) is omitted, or measurements can be collected normally and only the reporting is omitted.
