    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control discharge of NOx from the NOx absorbent with a good timing in response to a degree of lean combustion. SOLUTION: This device is provided in an exhaust system of an internal combustion engine, in which degree of lean combustion is changed in response to the operating condition, and it is provided with the NOx absorbent, which absorbs NOs when the exhaust fuel-air ratio is lean and which discharges NOx when the exhaust oxygen concentration is lowered, and an exhaust oxygen concentration lowering control means for estimating the NOx absorbed quantity, which is absorbed by the NOx absorbent, and for lowering the exhaust oxygen concentration when a judgment that the estimated NOx absorbed quantity exceeds an allowable value of the NOx absorption by the NOx absorbent is performed. In this case, on the basis of a point that NOx absorbing capacity is increased as a degree of lean combustion becomes large, namely, as an air- fuel ratio becomes large, starting time of the exhaust oxygen concentration lowering control by the exhaust oxygen concentration lowering control means is delayed as a degree of lean combustion becomes large.

    • PURPOSE:To provide a vehicle control device which is capable of performing the distance correction of a running vehicle in an excellent condition even if it bounds. CONSTITUTION:A road side communication machine 22 transmits a signal including prescribed location data from a loop antenna 3. An on-vehicle communication machine 14 recognizes the intensity level and location data by the reception signal from a reception antenna 20. An on-vehicle distance sensor 12 performing the measurement and calculation of a running distance is mounted on a vehicle 10. The location data is recognized when the reception signal is a prescribed value in the on-vehicle communication machine 14 and distance data is corrected by utilizing location data only when the location data is the same more than two times of three times of recognitions. Therefore, the correction of the distance data in a state that a misdetection of location generates because the vehicle 10 rebounds can be prevented from being executed.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent the intrusion of the exhaust rich in air-fuel ratio into a lean NOx catalyst, by installing an estimating means which stimates an air- fuel ratio rich state from the output of an operation state detecting means and opens a bypass passage. CONSTITUTION:An air-fuel ratio adjusting means 12 adjusts the air-fuel ratio by the output of an operation state detecting means 10. A lean NOx catalyst 4 is installed in the exhaust system of an internal combustion engine 2, and consists of the zeolite loading the transition metals or precious metals, and reduces the NOx in the exhaust gas under the presence of HC in the oxidation environment. In this case, an estimating means 14 for estimating the air-fuel ratio rich state from the output of the operation state detecting means 10 is installed, a bypass valve 8 is controlled so that a bypass passage 6 for bypassing the catalyst 4 is opened, when the air-fuel ratio rich state is estimated. Accordingly, even if a certain time is necessary for setting the bypass valve 8 from a closed state to an opened state, the bypass valve 8 is put into opened state when the air-fuel ratio becomes rich, and the intrusion of the exhaust rich in air-fuel ratio into the catalyst 4 is prevented.
