    • A transmitted OFDM signal is detected in a receiver of a wireless communication system. The receiver has at least two receiver branches, each comprising an antenna, a front end receiver, a Discrete Fourier Transform unit, and a channel estimator. The receiver further comprises a detector for detecting received data symbols. The method comprises the steps of determining (101) a system bandwidth associated with the transmitted signal; comparing (102) the determined system bandwidth with a predetermined value; determining (103), if the system bandwidth is lower than the predetermined value, channel estimates separately for each branch, and detecting (104) received data symbols from the received signals and corresponding channel estimates; and calculating (105), if the system bandwidth is higher than the predetermined value, a weighted sum of signals from each branch, determining (106) a combined channel estimate, and detecting (107) received data symbols from the weighted sum and the combined channel estimate.

    • The present disclosure relates to a technique for performing physical layer measurements on a frequency resource relative to other frequency resources in a telecommunications system operable to communicate over multiple frequency resources. A method aspect of this technique includes determining that a mobile terminal is to perform a physical layer measurement with regard to a first frequency resource, determining if there is data to be communicated over one or more second frequency resource(s) within a time period wherein the first frequency resource is distinct from the second frequency resources: if it is determined that there is no data to be communicated over the second frequency resource(s) within the time period, performing the physical layer measurement on the first frequency resource and forming a quality measure of the first frequency resource based on the physical iayer measurement; or if it is determined that there is data to be communicated over the second frequency resource(s) within the time period, modifying the physical layer measurement and forming a quality measure of the first frequency resource based on the modified physical layer measurement.

    • A base station reduces interference from user equipment operating in a neighboring cell by monitoring one or more channels of neighboring base stations to receive a signal transmitted by a user equipment that is being served by one of the neighboring base stations, and detecting when a power level of the signal transmitted by the user equipment exceeds a threshold power level. The base station then uses the received signal transmitted by the user equipment to acquire an identifier of the user equipment. The base station then communicates with a network node of the mobile communication system to arrange for it to serve the user equipment itself but in only the uplink direction. The neighboring base station continues to serve the user equipment in the downlink direction in what is now an asymmetrical uplink/downlink connection.

A computer program for implementing the method, a receiver arrangement adapted to perform such investigation, and a communication apparatus using such receiver arrangement are also disclosed.
