    • An optical connector and splicer including an optical fiber positioning member for optical coupling of optical fibers where the coupling is assisted by at least two guide pins. The optical fiber positioning member comprises a substrate plate (1) and a flat plate (2). The substrate plate has optical fiber grooves (3) and guide pin grooves (4) each formed at one surface thereof for positioning the one optical fibers (11) and said guide pins, respectively. The flat plate has a flat surface confronting with the grooved surface of the substrate plate. An exposed area is formed on a part of the substrate plate where said flat plate is not joined for facilitating an insertion of the optical fibers into the optical fiber grooves. A method of the optical connector and splicer comprises the steps of: preparing a substrate plate assembly form a single wafer made of a hard and brittle material; continuously forming a predetermined pattern of optical fiber grooves and guide pin grooves on a surface of said substrate plate assembly; bonding at least one flat plate to said surface of said substrate plate assembly with an adhesive thin layer, so that optical fiber groove holes and guide pin groove holes are provided; cutting a bonded assembly into sections each having predetermined dimensions of said positioning member; and fixing the optical fibers in said optical fiber groove holes by bonding with an adhesive (16).

    • PURPOSE:To allow the easy and sure operations by providing an interlocking shaft which is freely turnably held to a holding member fixed to a base plate, a pair of turning arms which are fixed at base parts to both ends of this shaft and make the same movement and a pair of gripping means which grip optical fibers. CONSTITUTION:The two right and left turning arms 4, 4 are fixed at the same angle to the interlocking shaft 3 and are so adapted that when the one turning arm 4 is turned obliquely the other turning arm 4 makes exactly the same movement by profiling this movement. The grippers 5 are freely turnably supported to pivotal shafts 6 at the front ends 4b of the turning arms 4 and are so constituted that the grippers can grip the optical fibers F with specified force by means of the springs built therein. A transfer jig 1 has a pair of parallel moving mechanism 21 along the turning arms 4 between the ends 2a of the holding member 2 and the base parts 5a of the respective grippers 5. The transfer jig 1 is used in the state of being fixed to a fusion connecting machine 51. Since the two turning arms 4, 4 move cooperatively, the optical fibers F can be easily and simply transferred in an exactly positioned state from the working position 55 of a fusing device 52 up to the working position 56 of a reinforcing device 54 by riding over an obstruction 53.

    • PURPOSE:To surely join a flat plate of an optical fiber guide member and a grooved substrate by applying a pressure to clamp the optical fiber guide member and forming an optical fiber core fixing part with a part of a clamping member and positioning the grooved substrate in the internal step part. CONSTITUTION:An optical fiber guide member 1 is stored in a clamping member 2 and is pressurized and clamped by the clamping member 2. In this case, projecting parts 23 are provided in the lengthwise direction in the clamping member 2 so that the force acts upon the guide member 1. An optical fiber core fixing part 21 where optical fiber cores are fixed is formed on the exposed upper face of the rear part. The front end part of the optical fiber guide member 1 is slightly projected from the clamping member 2, and the guide member 1 and the clamping member 2 are positioned in a step part 25 provided in the clamping member 2, and a clip pressurizing part 22 is formed in the rear end part of the clamping member 2. Thus, the clamping member 2 applies a pressure to clamp the flat plate 11 of the optical fiber guide member 1 and the grooved substrate 12.

    • PURPOSE:To obtain an optical connector with good size balance by providing >=1 optical fiber guide groove and plural guide pin grooves in the top and reverse surfaces of a substrate plate separately and joining flat plates to both surfaces of the substrate plate. CONSTITUTION:The substrate plate 1 is made of a hard and brittle material with which grinding accuracy is easily obtained, e.g. silicon and glass; and optical fiber guide grooves 4 and guide pin grooves 5 are formed in its top and reverse surfaces respectively. The flat plates 2 and 3 are joined to both surfaces of the substrate plate 1 and thus the guide grooves 4 and guide pin grooves 5 are arrayed in two stages to eliminate conventional lateral extension, thereby constituting an optical connector with good longitudinal-lateral balance. The guide grooves 4 and pin grooves 5 are positioned on the basis of, for example, the end part of the substrate plate 1 at the time of groove working and mutual positioning is carried with high accuracy.
