    • Quality of service information (QoSI) is included with a compressed header of a data packet and can be utilized by nodes supporting the header compression channel to perform QoS enforcements at a sub-flow granularity level. A basic mode of a method comprises (1) processing a packet using a process having a process-associated quality of service requirement to form a processed packet, and (2) including, with a compressed header for the processed packet, the header-included quality of service information which is derived using information indicative of the process-associated quality of service requirement. In another mode the header-included quality of service information is derived both from the process-associated quality of service requirement and quality of service information extracted from the received packet.

    • Techniques for a mobile station to signal a request for a reduction in data transmission rate to a base station are disclosed. An example method for facilitating flow control in a wireless communication system includes monitoring resource use associated with a mobile station and, based upon the resource use, setting a congestion indicator in a header of at least one uplink traffic data packet. The uplink traffic data packet is then sent to a wireless base station, which detects the congestion indicator. In some embodiments, ECN bits in an IP header of the uplink traffic data packet are set. In other embodiments, ECN bits in an IP header of a downlink traffic data packet are set, to trigger the generation of a TCP header that indicates congestion in subsequent uplink packets.

    • A method and mobile terminal for providing uplink scheduling information to a scheduler in a wireless telecommunication system. When a logical channel having data available to transmit triggers a buffer status report, the mobile terminal determines whether a priority level associated with the logical channel exceeds a predefined threshold. If so, the mobile terminal performs a scheduling request procedure with the scheduler. If not, the mobile terminal delays the scheduling request procedure until a predefined timing event has occurred. The predefined timing event may be at least one of expiration of a timer, a radio bearer associated with the logical channel becoming active, and if the scheduling request procedure is being performed using a contention-based random access, contention resolution succeeding for the mobile terminal.

    • The invention relates to a method for controlling a bit-rate of a session in a packet-switched communications system where multiple sessions are set-up via a shared resource. A current bit-rate of the session is compared to a bit-rate range valid for the session to determine a distance from the position of the current bit-rate to one of the end-points of the bit-rate range. The current bit-rate is then adapted differently depending on the distance to the selected end-point. By controlling the bit-rate of each session that is set-up via the shared resource for applications that provide delay-sensitive services to users in this way the method and corresponding system and sender-receiver arrangements have the effect that rate adaptations can be distributed among the applications so that users share responsibility for rate adaptations.

    • A decompressor, a compressor and methods in an Internet Protocol (IP) network for reporting cause of missing packets. A cause of unsuccessful reception or sending of a compressed packet addressed is reported to a compressor/decompressor node. The compressor/decompressor node decides or predicts if a decompression context associated with the decompressor is invalidated by analyzing the cause of the unsuccessful reception and, optionally, analyzing a re-initialization agreement between the compressor and the decompressor. In an optional embodiment of the present invention, the compressor/decompressor node use the decision or prediction to exchange information to reinitialize the decompression context associated with the decompressor. In a preferable embodiment of the present invention, the detection of the unsuccessful sending or reception is performed at a Medium Access (MAC) layer associated with the compressor/decompressor node.

    • Methods and devices are disclosed for forwarding data packets during handover in a packet-switched wireless communications system, such as a 3GPP Long-Term Evolution/System Architecture Evolution system. In an exemplary method, a source base station node determines that handover of at least one radio bearer for a served user terminal to a target base station node is imminent. The source base station node classifies a plurality of data packets into two or more data flow classifications according to a transmission status for each data packet, a service requirement for each data packet, or both and selectively forwards one or more of the data packets to the target base station node based on the data flow classification for each data packet. For example, data packets associated with a reliable delivery service requirement may be forwarded while data packets associated with a maximum delay service requirement are not.
