    • In a mobile communications network including an unlicensed radio access portion adapted to communicate with mobile stations over an unlicensed-radio interface an arrangement and method is proposed to permit calls to be handled differently depending on whether the caller and subscriber wishes to connect via the unlicensed radio access network or not. This is achieved by providing a home location register adapted to identify stored subscriber identity information identifying a mobile station from at least two separate dialled numbers and to output mobile station location information associated with the subscriber identity information in response to the dialled number. At least one of these numbers is reserved for connections to a mobile station via the unlicensed radio access network portion only. The mobile communications core network is furthermore arranged to terminate a call using the second dialled number when a mobile station is not connected to the unlicensed radio access network.

    • An end node in a packet-switched network is proposed wherein the end node is arranged to exchange packets consisting of a packet header and payload data with a server node connected to the packet-switched network. The end node includes at least one module adapted to extract quality of service parameter values from the headers of packets received over the packet-switched network and to insert the extracted quality of service parameter value in the headers of packets destined for transmission to the server node over the packet-switched network. In this manner the end node automatically adapts the quality of service parameters received over the packet-switched network to correspond with the type of quality of service defined in received packets. Such a system means that only the server node need be configured with the quality of service parameters applicable on the particular packet switched network, so greatly reducing the installation and configuration overheads in a multi-user network.

    • An unlicensed-radio access network is proposed for communication with a mobile terminal and packet service nodes in a core network portion of a mobile telecommunications network. The access network comprises local base stations each defining a mini-cell and adapted to communicate with mobile terminals over an unlicensed-radio interface and an access network controller connected to the local base stations and to a packet service node in the core network portion. The mini-cells are also grouped into at least two packet service cells. The local base stations that generate these mini-cells are assigned a cell identifier comprising a first identifier portion that is common for all local base stations connected to the access network controller and a second identifier portion that is different for local base stations in different packet service cells but common for all local base stations in the same packet service cell.

    • A mobile telecommunications network includes a core network portion, a first access network and a second access network. The first access network comprises a plurality of base stations adapted to communicate with mobile stations via a licensed radio interface and with the core network portion. The second access network comprises a plurality of access points each defining a mini-cell and adapted to communicate with mobile stations over an unlicensed-radio interface and an access network controller adapted to communicate with the core network portion and with the plurality of access points. The second access network is further adapted to set up a radio link with a mobile station that is entering a mini-cell and conducting an active call with the first access network and to communicate a cell identifier to the mobile station. The cell identifier identifies at least one mini-cell of the second access network to the core network portion for handover. At least one base station of the first access network is adapted to receive a handover proposal message from the mobile station containing the cell identifier and to communicate the cell identifier to the core network portion in a message indicating that handover is required.

    • Methods for reducing paging load when a Mobile Station (MS) switches between a cell providing access according to a first radio access technology (RAT) and a cell providing access according to General Access Network (GAN) radio access technology, wherein different radio resource (RR) entities in the MS are associated with the first RAT and the GAN radio access technology, a combined radio access network (RAN) controller manages cells associated with the first RAT and the GAN, and the combined RAN controller is unable to independently determine when the MS switches service from the first RAT to the GAN, and vice versa. When an MS has successfully acquired service from a wireless access point associated with the GAN (i.e., it has successfully performed a GAN registration procedure towards a GAN controller (GANC) using that wireless access point), wherein the wireless access point is associated with a cell in the same geographical service area as a cell associated with the first RAT through which the MS was previously receiving service, it sends a message to the combined RAN controller indicating that the GAN RR entity has become the serving RR entity in the MS, whereby the combined RAN controller can forward all future paging messages for the MS only through the access point associated with the GAN.

    • A system and method for enhanced support for handling of Closed Subscriber Groups (CSGs) and sharing of Radio Access Network (RAN) for home base stations and other small cells. An enhanced System Information (SI) structure indicates multiple CSG IDs and CSG Indications, thereby making it possible to support different CSG IDs and CSG Indications for every Public Land Mobile Network Identity (PLMN-ID) and also to support a PLMN-ID with multiple associated CSG IDs and CSG Indications. The enhanced SI makes it possible to have different CSG IDs for different operators, to have multiple CSG IDs for one operator (i.e., a single PLMN), and to selectively use the CSG concept for some PLMNs (as given by their respective CSG Indications), but not for all. A network of base stations (e.g., a RAN) thus can be effectively shared by multiple operators, leading to better cellular coverage, peak rates, and capacity.
