    • PURPOSE:To obtain a gaseous component detecting element which has good sensitivity, high response speed and large joint strength to a substrate and is free from exfoliation, etc. by using a sintered body of a specific metallic oxide as the sintered body of the metallic oxide whose the resistance value changes with the components of gas to be detected. CONSTITUTION:The gas detecting element 1 is constituted by providing a pair of electrodes (platinum) 4, 5 on the substrate internally contg. a heating element 2 and laminating the metallic oxide 6 thereon. The sintered body of the metallic oxide contg. >=1 kinds of metallic oxides such as Er2O3, Sm2O3 and In2O3 which consist essentially of titanium dioxide and difficulty cause a solid phase reaction with titanium dioxide and >=1 kinds of noble metals among platinum elements is used for the sintered body 6 of the metallic oxide. The increase in denseness is not accelerated and the flowability of the gas is maintained even if the metallic oxide is calcined at a high temp.; therefore, the responsiveness is improved. Since the calcination at the high temp. is possible, the joint strength to the substrate is high enough to obviate the generation of exfoliation, etc.
