    • A method and apparatus for dynamically configuring a memory for hybrid automatic repeat request (H-ARQ) processes in a receiving node to permit a more flexible H-ARQ memory configuration and improve the performance of H-ARQ processes. An H-ARQ memory in the receiving node is reserved for a plurality of H-ARQ processes. A transmitting node dynamically configures the H-ARQ memory in the receiving node for each H-ARQ transmission so that the memory requirement for a plurality of H-ARQ processes exceeds the H-ARQ memory capacity. If there is insufficient H-ARQ memory available to support H-ARQ transmissions, only a subset of the plurality of H-ARQ processes may be activated at a time. When there is insufficient H-ARQ memory for processing H-ARQ transmissions, a negative acknowledgement (NACK), an acknowledgement (ACK), nothing, and/or information indicating the reason for a failed transmission may be transmitted to a transmitting node.

    • A method and system for implementing hybrid automatic repeat request (H-ARQ)-assisted automatic repeat request (ARQ) in a wireless communication system are disclosed. When an H-ARQ negative acknowledgement (NACK)-to-positive acknowledgement (ACK) error occurs, the H-ARQ receiver sends an H-ARQ NACK-to-ACK error indicator to the H-ARQ transmitter unless a maximum retransmission limit has reached, a maximum time for delivery has expired or a lifespan of the failed packet has expired. The H-ARQ transmitter sends a local NACK to the ARQ transmitter so that the failed packet is recovered at an ARQ level. The H-ARQ receiver sends a local NACK to the ARQ receiver if the H-ARQ receiver does not receive the failed packet before certain conditions occur. The ARQ receiver may send a status report to the ARQ transmitter for recovery of the failed packet.

    • A method and system for call setup in an evolved third generation (3G) radio access network are disclosed. A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) sends its identity to a core network (CN) for call setup when the WTRU is in an RRC_disconnected state. The CN verifies the identity and sends an authentication vector to the WTRU. The WTRU sends a service access request message including an authentication response to the CN via a Node-B. The Node-B performs an admission control. The CN attaches the WTRU if the authentication response is same to an expected response. The Node-B then allocates radio resources to the WTRU. The Node-Bs may be directly connected, or may be connected to a control plane server which performs admission control. When the WTRU is transitioning from an RRC_idle state to an RRC_connected state, the WTRU may or may not need to re-authenticate again.

    • Urgent data is scheduled in a wireless communication system including at least one wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) and at least one Node-B. The WTRU includes a re-ordering release timer. The Node-B includes a buffer, a lifespan (or maximum allowed delay) timer and a high speed downlink packet access (HSDPA) scheduler. The HSDPA scheduler determines whether there is at least one protocol data unit (PDU) in the buffer whose lifespan (maximum allowed delay) timer or re-ordering release timer will expire if the PDU is not transmitted in a next N transmission timing interval (TTI), where N is a design parameter. If so, the PDU is treated as urgent data whereby a sequence of WTRUs, (i.e., users), scheduled to receive urgent data is arranged in an order of decreasing priority, and a more conservative modulation and coding scheme (MCS), multiple code transmission and a different redundancy reversion are considered for use.

    • A wireless communication method and apparatus for scheduling data having different priorities for a plurality of wireless transmit/receive units (WTRUs), (i.e., users) is disclosed. The normalized average active throughput for each of the WTRUs is computed. Then, the normalized channel quality for each of the WTRUs is computed based on a reported channel quality indicator (CQI) and the respective normalized average active throughput. A sequence of WTRUs is arranged in an order of decreasing normalized channel quality for each data priority. As much of the data as possible is scheduled for the WTRUs in the order of decreasing normalized channel quality of WTRUs. The scheduling is performed until there are no more physical resources available. Several of the WTRUs can be scheduled in the same transmission timing interval (TTI) if there are enough physical resources.

    • A radio resource control (RRC) message is received by a radio resource control (RRC) device of a user equipment (UE). The RRC message notifies the FDD UE of a high speed dedicated shared channel (HS-DSCH) inter-Node B cell change. A reordering buffers of a medium access controller-high speed (MAC-hs) is flushed in response to the receiving the RRC message. A status report is generated for each acknowledge mode (AM) RLC instance mapped to the HS-DSCH by a radio link control (RLC) device after the MAC-hs flushes the reordering buffer. Each status report indicates missing AM RLC packet data units (PDUs). The RRC device sends a “TRANSPORT CHANNEL RECONFIGURATION COMPLETE” message on a DCCH after the RLC device generates each status report.
