    • Apparatuses, systems, and methods that reduce the amount of time for recovering multiple beam-formed links in a wireless network are disclosed. An embodiment may, e.g., be a mobile computing device with wireless beamforming communications capabilities. Upon establishing links with multiple stations, the mobile computing device may sense that the link quality or strength is degrading for several of the links. The laptop may transmit a single forward-transmission sector sweep (FWD-TXSS) to initiate recovery of the links. The other stations previously linked to the laptop may detect the degradation the links and start monitoring for the single FWD-TXSS. The receiving devices may each perform reverse-transmission sector sweeps (REV-TXSS), in sequence, to reestablish beam-formed links with the laptop without requiring multiple forward-transmission sector sweeps.

    • In a wireless network, information regarding the power capabilities of a wireless device may be communicated to a wireless AP. The device itself may transmit such information, which may include a Max Idle Time period. The device may communicate the information within an association or re-association frame, for example as a parameter in a BSS Low Power Capability element. The AP may receive the information and set a keep-alive time period for the device based on the information. The AP may set the keep-alive time period to be equal to or greater than the Max Idle period. The AP may further communicate the keep-alive time period to the device, for example in an association or re-association response frame as a BSS Max Idle period element. In this way, the AP may apply different sets of parameters, such as different keep-alive time periods, to different classes of stations.

    • A method for operating a communication station in a communicating environment includes: (a) monitoring the environment to ascertain whether the station is receiving an unintended sensed signal not intended for the station from at least one signal source; (b) if the station has not received a predetermined number of unintended sensed signals during a predetermined time interval, operating the station in an omni-directional mode; and (c) if the station has received a predetermined number of sensed signals during the predetermined time interval, saving an indication of a reception direction from which arrived each unintended sensed signal; and operating the station in a directional mode. While in the directional mode, the station is sensitive to receiving signals arriving from a sensing direction other than from a reception direction, and the station transmits signals toward the sensing direction.
