    • A first object is to provide a method for evaluating large-sized inclusions in a bearing steel. The method enables quantitative evaluation of large-sized inclusions even if the steel has a high degree of cleanliness. Further, a second object is to provide an appropriate bearing steel evaluated by the method for evaluating large-sized inclusions. Further, a third object is to provide a rolling bearing capable of eliminating short life products and cracked products and providing longer lifetime for entire bearings. In order to achieve the first object, a round bar formed of a bearing steel to be evaluated and an ultrasonic probe are placed in an ultrasonic transmission medium, and the size and number of large-sized inclusions that are present in the flaw detection volume are measured to estimate the existence probability of large-sized inclusions in the bearing steel to be evaluated. The second object is achieved by specifying large-sized inclusions that are present in the bearing steel in accordance with the method for evaluating large-sized inclusions. Further, to achieve the third object, a rolling bearing is manufactured from a seamless steel tube, as material, having a diameter of 180 mm or less and a wall thickness of 25 mm or less, and ensured that it does not include a defect having a length of 1 mm of more at its material stage.

    • In a liquid crystal display device having a simple matrix liquid crystal display panel including a plurality of scanning electrodes disposed in parallel with each other and a plurality of data electrodes disposed in parallel with each other so as to cross the scanning electrodes, the scanning electrodes are divided into a predetermined number of sub-groups, and each sub-group is successively driven by utilizing an orthogonal function. For a selection, a signal having an electric potential of .+-.Vr, which is a selection pulse string according to the orthogonal function, is applied to the respective scanning electrodes as a scanning electrode driving signal. For a non-selection, a signal having an electric potential of 0 is applied to the respective scanning electrodes as the scanning electrode driving signal. On the other hand, a data electrode driving signal having an electric potential proportional to a sum of products of a display pattern and the scanning electrode driving signal is applied to the respective data electrodes. A bias value "A", which is a proportional constant therefor, is set in a predetermined range. Thus, a uniform display with a high contrast enabling a fast response can be realized while suppressing a frame response phenomenon and display inconsistencies.

    • A reflective type liquid crystal display device excelling in uniformity and capable of making a bright display is presented. At the front side of the liquid crystal display element, that is, at the observer side, a light guide plate is disposed, and a pair of lamps are disposed at the outer side of the confronting side surfaces of the light guide plate. Collimators for limiting the incident angle .theta. to the upper surface of the light from the lamps are disposed between the light guide plate and lamps. That is, by the collimators, the incident angle .theta. to the upper surface is defined so that the incident light may be totally reflected, and that the reflected light may not be totally reflected by the lower surface 61b. As a result, the light from the lamps will not reach the observer directly, and a uniform illumination of the liquid crystal display element may be realized. Besides, at the observer side of the liquid crystal display element, a light guide plate forming protrusions is disposed, and a pair of lamps are disposed at the outer side of the confronting side surfaces of the light guide plate. Furthermore, between the light guide plate and lamps, collimators for limiting the incident angle .theta. of the light from the lamps into the upper surface are disposed. Accordingly, the light from the lamps does not reach the observer directly, and the light entering the protrusions formed on the light guide plate is emitted to the liquid crystal display element side. Thus, a uniform illumination into the liquid crystal display element is realized.

    • An information input and output apparatus includes an active matrix type display device and switching device. In the information input and output apparatus, the display device displays an image according to an image signal, and has plural pixel electrodes formed in a matrix shape on a transparent substrate. The switching device drives the display device in response to a predetermined voltage to be applied to one of row electrode lines and a predetermined voltage to be applied as the image signal to one of column electrode lines. A photoconductive layer is formed between each of the row electrode lines and each of the column electrode lines at each intersection of the row electrode lines and the column electrode lines in a structure relation to receive light projected from the light pen. When light projected from a light pen is incident onto the photoconductive layer, the resistance thereof decreases. Then, a detection circuit detects a position of the light pen located on the display means responsive to a signal corresponding to the decrease of the resistance of the photoconductive layer which is induced to each of the column electrode lines.
