摘要： A system for digitizing a freehand graphic. The system comprises: a base including a surface; a position-coding pattern printed on the surface and detectable by an optical sensor; a first area of the surface; and a second area of the surface. The system further comprises a drawing device including an optical sensor for detecting a position in the position-coding pattern; and a transmitter for transmitting interaction data to a processor. The interaction data identifies the detected position. The processor is adapted to determine if the detected position is in the first area or the second area. If the detected position is in the first area of the surface, then the processor interprets the position as a point in the freehand graphic. If the detected position is in the second area of the surface, then the processor interprets the position as a selection of a property for the freehand graphic.

Employing the invention involves the use of one or more forms which support interaction with a computer system or network. Each form is printed on sheet material such as paper and includes coded data which allows it to be used to interact with the computer system via a sensing device operated by a user.Specifically, the method includes the steps of providing a participant with at least one conferencing form containing information relating to a remote conferencing session and including coded data indicative of an identity of the conferencing form and of at least one reference point of the conferencing form, receiving, in a computer system, indicating data from a sensing device operated by said conference participant involved in the conference session, said indicating data regarding the identity of the conferencing form and a position of the sensing device relative to the conferencing form, the sensing device, when placed in an operative position relative to the conferencing form, sensing the indicating data using at least some of the coded data, identifying in the computer system and from the indicating data, at least one parameter relating to the conferencing session, and providing at least one other conference participant remote from said conference participant with at least one conferencing form containing information representative of the at least one parameter.The invention can be employed by geographically distributed participants to communicate graphical ideas via a shared ‘whiteboard’ using interactive surface media while engaged in a telephone conference. Every time a participant adds a modification or a new diagram to the whiteboard, the other participants can be provided with a printed copy of the updated page.

Employing the invention involves the use of one or more control interfaces which are capable of being used to interact with a computer system or network, each interface comprising sheet material such as paper which has coded data printed on it and which allows it to be used to interact with the computer system by use of a sensing device operated by a user. Through this interaction, data from the control interface can be transmitted to the computer system to effect an operation relating to the functioning of the telephone. In this way, the computer system can invoke functions such as the making of outgoing calls, and the receiving and sending of text information such as short messages or retrieved telephone numbers.

摘要： A method of enabling a user to search stored information via an interactive search request form is provided. The form includes a search field for inputting a handwritten search request and coded data indicative of an identity of the form and of a plurality of locations within the search field. The method has the steps of: (a) inputting a handwritten search request in the search field using a sensing device; (b) receiving in a computer system indicating data from the sensing device, the indicating data comprising data regarding the identity of the form and data regarding the position and/or movement of the sensing device relative to the at least one search field, the sensing device generating the indicating data when writing the handwritten search request; and (c) identifying in the computer system, using at least some of the indicating data, a search request corresponding to the handwritten search request.
