    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device of a field sequential system, which can reduce power consumption without deteriorating display image quality.
      SOLUTION: In a detection circuit for number of gradations 23, the number of gradations on respective colors (red, green and blue) in pixel data for display is detected. When the detected number of the gradations of all pixel data in the respective colors corresponding to subframes is almost zero, a non-lighting signal is transmitted from a lighting/non-lighting control part 24 to a back light control circuit 35. In the sub-frame (sub-frame where all pixel data in the respective colors become "black") where the number of gradations on all pixel data in the respective colors is almost zero, LED corresponding to the color is not turned on.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a liquid crystal display element having high display quality by forming a non-adhesive spacer member and an adhesive spacer member which do not exert adverse effect on alignment of a liquid crystal in a comparatively simple process.
      SOLUTION: The non-adhesive spacer which can be patterned by using an alkaline developing solution and accurately controls gap width and the adhesive spacer which can be patterned by using an organic and alkaline developing solution and formed by using a positive photosensitive resin containing polysilane are formed on an alignment layer whose rubbing is finished. When a peripheral sealant is thermally cured, the adhesive spacer is also cured and a pair of substrates are adhesively stuck to each other also in a display region.
