    • A method and system that permits the purchase of a license to make a limited number of copies of a book. At the time of purchase, the purchaser or user is given a key that contains the ability to obtain the limited number of copies on demand. The key contains a web address that can be used to obtain the authorized copies. In some embodiments, the key is a label in a machine readable form that is readable by a label reader, such as a bar code reader or a magnetic reader. In other embodiments, the key is merely a web address that the user may contact. At the point of sale, the key or record is formed, affixed to the book and also sent to copy tracker. The copy tracker then keeps track of the copies as made and processes each request to make a copy. If permitted, a database is enabled to send an electronic image of the requested copy to the user.

    • A system and method is provided for real time transcription or translation services. In one aspect of the system and method, a user requests transcription/translation service with certain service parameters. It is determined what resources can be used for such service, and, if all the service parameters can be met, the service is performed. Resources include live stenographers or translators, and computer processing power. If all the service parameters can not be met, it is determined whether to perform the service by meeting only some of the service parameters. These determinations may be programmed into the system beforehand. In another aspect of the system and method, a user makes a request for transcription/translation service, and the request is displayed so that stenographers or translators may make bids to perform the transcription/translation service. In some embodiments, the request is only displayed to those stenographers or translators who are determined to be able to perform the service. Bids are received and stored. The user chooses whether or not to accept a bid.

    • A system and method for GUI on multiple monitors that are located in the same user work space. This invention involves a computer using an external source that is able to keep track of what applications the user has outside of his/her computer. The computer still has all of these applications within it, but when they are not needed they are taken off the screen. Two methods are disclosed to track these functions of the applications. The first method involves using a connection with the Internet with all the users devices. The second method involves using a video camera to conduct a visual search for certain devices that are on the user's desk. Certain of the items on a user's desk such as an Internet picture frame, a television, a telephone, a calculator, etc. are connected to the Internet. Whether or not the item on the user's desk is being used is determined by the Internet connection. Other items such as a clock, radio, etc. could have a separate source to identify the device. This separate source involves using one or more video cameras to detect if a certain device is located on a users desk. For either method, there can be an option for a menu that would contain a list of applications that could be opened manually if needed.

    • A method of language recognition wherein decoding ambiguities are identified and at least partially resolved intermediate to the language decoding procedures to reduce the subsequent number of final decoding alternatives. The user is questioned about identified decoding ambiguities as they are being decoded. There are two language decoding levels: fast match and detailed match. During the fast match decoding level a large potential candidate list is generated, very quickly. Then, during the more comprehensive (and slower) detailed match decoding level, the fast match candidate list is applied to the ambiguity to reduce the potential selections for final recognition. During the detailed match decoding level a unique candidate is selected for decoding. Decoding may be interactive and, as each ambiguity is encountered, recognition suspended to present questions to the user that will discriminate between potential response classes. Thus, recognition performance and accuracy is improved by interrupting recognition, intermediate to the decoding process, and allowing the user to select appropriate response classes to narrow the number of final decoding alternatives.

    • A system, for automatically tracking objects, including a computer processor and memory, cameras and other sensors and a user interface. A user registers an object with the system by presenting the object to a camera, which produces an image of the object, and describing the object through a user interface. Based on an analysis of the image and the description provided by the user, an object identifier/tracker determines the attributes of the object, classifies the object according to the attributes, and indexes and stores the image in a database. The system will thereafter track the location of the object. Subsequently, the user can query the system to search the database to obtain information regarding the object.
