    • The encased product of the present invention comprises an elongated flexible casing cylindrically shaped substantially along its length and having opposite end closures. A product material fills the cavity formed by the flexible casing and maintains the casing in a cylindrical shape. The cylindrical casing is formed from a elongated strip of flexible material having opposite side edges, the strip being formed into a finished tubular casing with the side edges of the strip within each casing frictionally overlapping and engaging the side edges thereof. The product is formed by continuously applying an elongated flexible ribbon to the outer cylindrical surface of a stuffing tube at a canted angle with respect to the longitudinal axis of the tube and rotating the flexible ribbon at the point where it is applied to the stuffing tube so that it will wrap around the tube in a plurality of helical revolutions to form a cylindrical casing on the tube. The adjacent edges of the helical revolutions of the ribbon are frictionally overlapped to one another so as to form a cylindrical casing and product is forced through the tube from the rearward end to the discharge end and into the cylindrical casing. The stuffing tube may be a rotating stuffing tube or it may be a stationary stuffing tube. A ribbon feed device is provided for feeding a continuous strip of ribbon to the stuffing tube. Moisture is applied to the ribbon to enhance the cohesiveness of the overlapped side edges thereof.

    • Simulation results enhancement software method and system are disclosed. A partial simulation results data base that is produced by an interactive simulator is software enhanced, using full elemental characterizations from the modeling subsystem thereof, to produce a simulation completion results data base. The simulation completion results data base is suitable for post-simulation processing to enable the viewing or plotting of any dependent variable, or transform thereof, available from the modeling subsystem. A simulation-produced interim results data base provides, in association with a software co-processor, the capability of interrupting the simulation upon the occurrence of a user-defined event. Use of the enhancement software is illustrated in the context of analog circuit simulation, whereby voltage, current and power waveforms are made available to the user without unduly burdening the computer system on which the simulation software is executed.

    • A system and method of referencing frequencies of radiation from a plurality of sources, for example lasers (1,2) includes filter element (11), such as a Fabry-Perot etalon, onto which the radiation is incident. The filter element has a replicated set of passbands spaced apart in frequency. Detection means (12, 13) detects radiation passing through the filter element (11) and provides corresponding output signals. Control means (16-18, 3, 4) is responsive to the output signals from the detection means (12, 13) to control the sources (1, 2) so that the radiation transmitted through the filter element (11) is maintained substantially constant. The bandwidths of the radiation are small compared with the corresponding passbands of the filter element. The invention is particularly applicable in a communications network in which a number of sets of remote sources of radiation are referenced to a central set of reference sources.

An alignment arrangement, including a plurality of parallel vacuum belts and a cooperating plenum, is positioned adjacent the conveyor and is skewed with respect to the conveyor. The alignment arrangement engages a sheet as it is carried by the conveyor and transports the sheet laterally such that a lateral edge of the sheet contacts the alignment surface. The vacuum belts define relatively large openings through which the partial vacuum from the plenum is applied, such that the vacuum belts effectively engage a sheet only during periods in which substantially all of the openings are covered by the sheet.

    • For mounting a showerhead or the like to a pipe, a pivot ball is formed entirely of plastic material. It has a base internally threaded to attach to the pipe and a hollow shell coupled to the base so as to constitute the spherical portion of a ball joint. That spherical portion is composed of first and second mating approximately semi-hemispherical segments. The first segment is formed integrally with the base and the second segment is coupled to that base in establishment of the spherical ball. An internal tube extends from the second segment essentially through the entire assembly. In a second version, the internal tube is shorter but also serves to secure the two segments together. This version has a base which is externally threaded. Still another version has a different form of mating between the segments.
