    • A plastic device for supporting an elongated object comprises a plurality of looped strips of successively greater sizes from the smallest looped strip at the innermost position with the opposite terminals of the looped strips continuously joined into one lateral edge of a common base piece. These looped strips are each provided on the outer side at the central portion thereof with a fastening piece adapted to be brought into engagement with a hook provided on the remaining lateral edge of the base piece. The supporting of an elongated object with this plastic device is accomplished by selecting from among the looped strips the strip of a size befitting the diameter of the elongated object, wrapping it around the elongated object and bringing the fastening piece of the selected strip into engagement with the hook of the base piece.

    • A glass plate is attached through the medium of an adhesive layer to the bottom of a stepped portion which is formed along the edge of a window frame. Along the edge of the glass plate, there are fixed supporting pieces which have movable holding pieces supported thereon in such a way as to enjoy freedom of motion in directions perpendicular to the edge of the glass plate, the movable holding pieces each being provided with a claw adapted to provide engagement with the edge of a molding. The fixing of the molding to the edge of the window frame is accomplished by first causing the movable holding pieces to be moved on the supporting pieces to their respective positions prescribed for attachment of the molding and subsequently pushing the molding downwardly along the lateral surface of the stepped portion formed along the edge of the window frame, whereby the engaging claws of the movable holding pieces now held at positions for the attachment of the molding will automatically come into engagement with the edge of the molding.

    • To provide an active matrix liquid crystal display unit in which a wiring break at the intersection of drain wiring and gate wiring is prevented with reliability. One or more recesses extending along drain wiring and having a depth equal to or greater than the width of the drain wiring are formed in at least one side of gate wiring at an area near an intersection of the gate wiring and the drain wiring. Furthermore, the gate wiring is composed of two layers of Mo and Al, for example, and the side faces of the gate wiring are tapered. The recesses having a sufficient depth formed in the gate wiring at the area near the intersection with the drain wiring adequately elongate the etchant penetration path.

    • A linker generates a simulator-use executable format program from a pre-conversion object program and a simulator-use object program. A simulator executes the simulator-use object program and acquires branch trace information. A binary program converting tool, based on the branch trace information and a branch penalty table, generates a post-conversion object program having a rewritten branching prediction bit of the pre-conversion object program.
