摘要： An oil circulation system and method for continuously purifying engine oil including an engine operably connected to an oil reservoir, wherein at least one stream of oil is conveyed from the oil reservoir to the engine via a conduit, and circulated through the engine and conduit via engine operating pressure and/or one or more pumps, and at least one membrane unit positioned in a path of the oil stream such that oil containing dissolved/emulsified droplets of water is fed continuously through the membrane unit. A cross flow hollow fiber module adapted to be positioned in a system for continuously purifying engine oil, the hollow fiber module having a central feed distributor tube, hollow fiber membranes positioned around the central feed distributor tube, end caps with ports for receiving and emitting a flow of sweep air, and optionally a shell casing.

摘要： A method and apparatus for making an optical fiber preform. The apparatus has an outer wall and an inner wall. The outer wall surrounds the inner wall and the inner wall surrounds an inner cavity of the apparatus. A core rod is deposited in the inner cavity after which particulate glass material, such as glass soot, is deposited in the inner cavity around the core rod. The core rod has at least 10 percent of the final cladding soot already applied thereto. A radially inward pressure is applied against the particulate glass material to pressurize the particulate glass material against the core rod.

摘要： A method for manufacturing a thin layer chromatography ("TLC") plate (100) is disclosed. The method includes forming a catalyst layer (104) disposed on a substrate that includes a first portion and at least a second portion, each of the first and at least a second portions exhibiting a selected non-linear configuration. The method also includes forming a layer of elongated nanostructures (e.g. carbon nanotubes), and at least partially coating the elongated nanostructures with a coating. The coating includes a stationary phase and/or precursor of a stationary phase for use in chromatography. The stationary phase is functionalized with hydroxyl groups by exposure to acidified water vapor or immersion in a concentrated acid liquid bath (e.g. HCI and methanol). At least a portion of the elongated nanostructures are removed after being coated.

In an embodiment, a functionalized graphitic stationary phase material may be manufactured from high surface area porous graphitic carbon and a radical forming functionalizing agent. The radical forming functionalizing agent produces an intermediate that forms a covalent bond with the surface of the porous graphitic material and imparts desired properties to the surface of the graphitic carbon.
