    • The present invention relates to a device for holding tile during cutting to obtain defined angles, preferably 45.degree. angles. The present invention further encompasses a method for using such a device in combination with a table-style tile cutter, preferably one using a roller tray with a lip, to cut defined angles into various orientations of tile and, more specifically, tile caps. The device comprises a base having a bottom and at least two straight edges that meet in a right angle in a corner of the base. In its preferred embodiment the base includes two grooves. One of the grooves includes a curved section shaped to mirror and support the concave side of the curved nose of a standard bullnose tile cap. The other groove includes a curved section shaped to mirror and support the convex side of the curved nose of a standard bullnose tile cap. These grooves allow for holding and supporting tile as aligned by the base for cutting pre-defined angles into various orientations of the tile. Alternative embodiments may include only one or the other of the two grooves.

    • A post-processing system for an optical correlator automatically detects and ranks peaks in the correlation image. An array of input buffers each receive pixels from a predetermined region of the image from the correlator camera. An array of peak detectors search the image pixels in each region for correlation peaks exceeding a predetermined threshold figure of merit. For example, each peak detector can be convolver array and a local maximum detector. The peak detectors generate a report entry for each such correlation peak that contains the figure of merit and location of the peak within the image. Results sorting and reporting means collect and store the report entries from each peak detector. The report entries are sorted by their figures of merit and reported to the host computer system.

    • A tanning system (14) is disclosed which allows a single centrally located control unit (10) to control a number of remote tanning beds. Each tanning bed is provided with a remote unit (12) associated with the tanning bed. Communication occurs between the control unit (10) and the remote unit (12) through a common AC power wiring structure (22) extending therebetween. The system can use CEBus, X10 or another suitable system for communicating through the AC wiring structure. The operator has control of the operating time of each tanning bed while the customer has control of when the tanning operation begins.

    • An apparatus is provided for forming tobacco rod portions of a smoking article. A conveyor unit is configured to receive a continuous stream of the tobacco material and to transport the continuous tobacco material stream along an elongate path for formation of the continuous tobacco material stream into a continuous tobacco rod, wherein the conveyor unit is housed in a conveyor housing. A suction system is in fluid communication with the conveyor housing through a suction port and is configured to apply suction to the conveyor housing via the suction port so as to draw the continuous tobacco stream into engagement with the conveyor unit. A wear resistant member is engaged with a wall of the conveyor housing and defines the suction port, wherein the wear resistant member is configured to resist wear from interaction with particles associated with the tobacco material.
