摘要： A scanner determines whether a target is a bar code symbol and, if so, whether that symbol is one-dimensional or two-dimensional. For two-dimensional symbols, the scanner aligns a scanning pattern with the symbol and expands the scanning pattern to reach only to the top and bottom edges of the symbol, not beyond. The scanner also has a microprocessor-control scanning engine that uses a coil to drive a scanning element and pick up feed back signals from the scanning element. A pulse-width-modulated regulator also provides fast and efficient operation for driving the coil. The scanning engine can also be designed to generate a pattern that precesses across the target, and a powerful interface to the scanning engine allows decoding and control logic to work efficiently with and independently of the scan engine.

摘要： An integrated optical module for an optical scanner has a lens spaced from a vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) by a spacer of defined dimensions. The module, in an alternative embodiment, includes a wafer frame, a suspended mirror mounted for oscillation on the frame, a wafer substrate bonded beneath the frame and a wafer cover bonded above the frame. The cover includes a mirror travel stop to protect the mirror against shocks. A VCSEL mounted to the wafer cover produces a beam which is shaped and deflected by a diffractive optical element onto the oscillating mirror. The reflected beam passes out of the module toward an indicia to be read. Large numbers of such devices may be fabricated relatively cheaply using wafer-scale processing and assembly technology. Three large wafers are fabricated corresponding respectively to arrays of substrates, frames and covers. The large wafers are bonded together in a sandwich arrangement, and are then diced to produce the individual scan modules. The modules may provide either one-dimensional or two-dimensional scanning.

摘要： A bar code reader has an integrated scanning component module which is mountable on a printed circuit board. In one embodiment, the module may include the digitizer/decoder electronics, enabling the module to be used with a generic PCB. In some embodiments, the module includes a high speed optical scanning arrangement having an optical element which extends longitudinally of a flexible member, secured at one end. In other embodiments, the invention extends to a hand-held optical scanner having a scanning assembly, detector and data transmission coupling all mounted to a common printed circuit board, preferably located within a manually-graspable handle. In yet a further embodiment, an abuse-detector or accelerometer is provided for determining when the device is exposed to deceleration above a predetermined limit, and optionally for automatically shutting down applications programs and for providing a black-box-record of a short time frame before the device was exposed to an unexpected shock. Preferably, the reader is shock protected by a thermo-plastic elastomer housing section. An outgoing light beam is directed at a non-orthogonal angle relative to the PCB.

摘要： According to a first aspect of the present invention there is provided an optical system for and a method of reading bar code symbols on a target by moving a laser beam directed toward the target in a scan across the symbol during a scan period that commences and ends at opposite scan end-limiting positions, respectively, of the scan. Power usage of the system is minimized by intermittently operating and energizing a light source during the scan period over a duty cycle prior to reading the symbol, to emit the laser beam for a working time period which is less than, and a fraction of, the scan period. The intermittent and cyclical nature of energizing the light source produces multiple images of the light beam on the symbol to visually enhance the aiming of a hand-held scanner at the symbol.

The housing has a main portion and a head portion, both having generally rectangular cross-sections. A scan module is mounted on a circuit board that extends through the housing portions. 摘要： A scanner has a window in its housing through which the scanning beam emerges to impinge upon an indicia to be read. The beam scans in a raster fashion over the window, and as it does so it impinges upon beam position indicating means which locate the position of the beam with respect to the scanner in at least certain portions of the scan pattern. Specifically, the beam position indicating means determines the position of the beam in a direction perpendicular to the overall scanning direction. In a preferred embodiment, the beam position indicating means may comprise one or more CCD's which provide electrical output signals dependent upon the position of the beam when it impinges upon them. Alternatively, the beam position indicating means may comprise passive code means such as a stacked series of bar code symbols. The location of the beam when it scans across the symbol can be determined by the unique pattern of reflections.

摘要： High speed scanning arrangements in scanners for reading bar code symbols by oscillating a scanner component in a single line pattern, the scanner assembly being suspended from a single flexural assembly for oscillating movement. The flexural assembly includes a flexure that lies in a plane extending through a central region of a scan mirror in a direction orthogonal to the plane of the mirror. A drive is operative for moving the scanner assembly from a rest position in a circumferential direction to one of two scan end positions. The flexural assembly is tensioned and stores energy, which energy is released in order to return the scanner assembly in the other circumferential direction to the other scan end position.

摘要： An optical reader for reading indicia such as bar codes comprises a first and second light source for generating first and second laser beams. The respective laser sources generate light at different wavelengths and a dichroic filter is provided to allow either source to be used without parallax effects. The laser scanner beam can be used to aim the reader when carrying out field of view reading. The optical reader is further provided with a band-pass filter shaped to match the wave-front of light generated at a given location incident on the filter to reduce the band-pass bandwidth and hence the ambient noise. The shaped band-pass filter can be incorporated in the optical reader dichroic filter arrangement.
