A support for a reel of cable, wire or rope, particularly suitable for suspension from a helicopter for the unreeling of cable during the flight of the helicopter, comprises a base 1 having detachably projecting therefrom a spindle 3, a first frame secured to the spindle and a second frame 14 pivotally mounted on the first frame and spring biased into frictional contact with the cable on the reel, rotatable means preferably in the form of rubber-tyred castors 2 being mounted on the base 1 in frictional contact with the reel. The first frame includes a horizontal member 7 secured at one end to and normal to the spindle 3, a member 8 connecting the other end of the member 7 to the upper end of the spindle, and a vertical bracing member 13 between the members 7, 8. Two vertical members 10, 11 depend from the member 7, the member 11 pivotally carrying the second frame 14. The second frame 14 includes two horizontal members 16, each having a portion 17 of its length angled with respect to the remainder of its length; the portions 17 are maintained in frictional contact with the cable on the reel R by means of springs 19. The support is suspended from a helicopter by the top of the spindle 3, and the connected ends of the members 7, 8 serves as a mounting for a pulley block 21, which provides a constant take-off point for the cable.

[Class 44.] A drawer &c. lock has reversible elements operated selectively and with means for restoring wrongly operated elements to inoperative position. The drawer 11 is locked by the engagement of hook-like heads 21 of members 19 with the shoulder 26. The elements are arranged so that some have the hookheads directed downwardly, and some upwardly. Operation of the former only is required for release to lift the heads clear of the shoulder 26. If the others are operated, these heads engage the shoulder 25 and lock the drawer. The elements are operated by a pin entering holes 31 to push forward blocks 29 to engage lifting members 27. To restore wrongly operated elements to inoperative positions, the pin is inserted into the hole 40, to push forward a bar 39 which tilts the pivoted bar 41 to actuate a bar 38. This moves all the lifting members 27 to inoperative position. To prevent operation of the pushers 29 unless the drawer is properly closed, a catch 34 pivoted at 35 drops into engagement with the shoulders 33 until tilted out of their path by the complete closing of the drawer.

Pencil-holder.-In pencil holders of the screw-propelling type, the follower c is provided with an uninterrupted thread engaging an internally threaded portion b of the casing a, and travels longitudinally upon a partly slotted lead tube d. when the latter is rotated, the lead being projected by a follower wire e located within the lead tube and connected to the follower by a right-angled bend projecting through the slot. A portion e of the wire follower is also offset to engage the edges of the slot. The lead tube d is secured at its upper end to a tubular member f which forms a chamber for spare leads and is closed bv a screwed end cap h which serves also as a means for rotating the lead tube, follower, and follower wire. The lower end of the lead tube is split to form two or more jaws and is shaped conically to correspond with the lower end of the casing, the engagement of these conical surfaces providing a firm grip upon the end of the lead when projected for writing. A plunger j normally held against the lower end of the screw-threads b by a spring j is depressed if the end cap h is further rotated after the whole of the lead has been projected, the follower then leaving the threads and rotating idly in the space beneath. On rotating the end cap in the opposite direction the follower again engages the threads b. The spring j is supported by a disc j secured beneath it, and a tubular projection on the underside of the disc carries a. conical sleeve k which guides the lead tube passing through it. Pads i provided at the upper and lower ends of the refill chamber relieve the jar upon the leads while being carried, and by saturating the pads with a suitable substance such as a spirit or spiritous compound the leads are preserved from hardening.

    • A fluid pumping system that includes a motor and a pump, wherein an output shaft of the motor is directly coupled to an input shaft of the pump. This coupling between the output shaft of the motor and the input shaft of the pump may be the primary mechanism for coupling the motor to the pump. Such a configuration may be called a “floating pump mount”, because the pump is primarily coupled to the motor via the shaft connection. As a result of this connection, the output shaft of the motor may be naturally “aligned” with the input shaft of the pump. To help prevent the pump from freely rotating with the output shaft of the motor during operation, a rotational stop mechanism may be provided. The rotational stop mechanism may include a bracket that extends between the motor housing and the pump housing. The bracket may be adapted to absorb at least some of any relative movement between the pump and the motor caused by, for example, shaft or coupling irregularities.
