    • In an automatic cartesian coordinate beacon tracking system for a communications satellite reflector antenna the higher order TM01 and TE21 circular waveguide modes are used as the tracking modes and are both extracted from the primary waveguide 3 by a first mode coupling section 4 comprising four equiangularly spaced transverse rectangular coupling apertures 10 opening separately into four rectangular waveguide arms 11 which lead to a hybrid network 12 arranged to isolate the two tracking modes from each other and then to vectorially subtract and sum the tracking modes to derive difference channel error signals DELTA X and DELTA Y related to the pointing error of the antenna. The dominant TE11 mode at the beacon frequency is extracted from the primary waveguide 3 by a second mode coupling section 5 axially spaced from the first mode coupling section 4 and comprising four equiangularly spaced longitudinal rectangular coupling apertures 13 opening separately into four rectangular waveguide arms 14 which lead to a second hybrid network 15 arranged to derive sum channel reference signals SIGMA X and SIGMA Y respectively from the extracted components of the TE11 mode at the beacon frequency. In some cases the second mode coupling section 5 of the tracking system may be arranged to extract up link communication signals from the RF feed chain in addition to the beacon tracking signal, the second hybrid network 15 being suitably designed to separate the extracted communication and tracking signals.
