    • A method for relating media to information in a workflow system provides pre-processed Natural Language Processing (NLP) tables of a database of informational content such as text documents, Web pages, images, video, music, etc., that provide information pertaining to a statistical and heuristic analysis of the informational content and description of the content. The tables are used for algorithmic comparison to other documents and media. The invention can be used in workflow applications and media applications, e.g. , television set top boxes. The invention performs real time analysis of incoming media content or workflow content and algorithmically matches informational content that pertain to the media or workflow content and algorithmically matches informational content that pertain to the media or workflow content using the pre-processed tables. This is through algorithmic analysis of the text in, and/or associated with, the informational content and the text in or associated with the incoming media content or workflow content. Referrals to any related informational documents and/or media are sent to the appropriate workflow or media application and are displayed to a user. The user can select any of the related documents for display or use in the workflow or media application.

    • A smart card enabled secure computing environment system locks the host computer system from user access and waits for a smart card to be inserted into an attached or co-resident smart card reader. When a smart card is inserted into the smart card reader, the invention asks the user to enter his smart card password which is compared to the password on the smart card. If the two passwords match, the invention looks up the user's username in an access file of valid users and finds its associated access times and/or cumulative time limits in the access file. if the current time is within any of the valid access times and the user's cumulative usage time is within the specified cumulative time limit, then access is granted and the system is unlocked. The invention periodically checks the current time while the user is using the computer. If a blocked time period is entered or a cumulative time limit is exceeded, the user is logged off the machine and the computer is locked from user access. If at any time the user's smart card is removed from the smart card reader the invention will shut down all of the user's programs and lock the system.

    • The invention herein draws from the design principles of the field of information visualization and provides a series of design principles for the efficient display of large strategies, based in part upon the use of fish-eye views. Specific principles include any of the following: do not let the off screen part of strategy affect the display of the on screen part of the strategy; do not try to show detail where it is not important; always show the condition path; no scroll bars; provide navigational shortcuts; provide navigational cues; fit as much information on the screen as possible; maintain a consistent top of the strategy-children orientation; fit the strategy display into a rectangular view; and be capable of rendering all strategies.
