Coupling nut 13, which secures lower part 12 to upper part 11 of the housing, has a plurality of recesses (45, Fig. 2, not shown) on its inner surface into which the outwardly turned end 44 of U-shaped detent spring 40 engages, preventing the unscrewing of 13 for disassembly but enabling rotation the other way for assembly. With switch bar 17 in the OFF position as shown, projection 49 (solid line) is adjacent projection 48 of detent spring 40 and further movement of 49 to the right beyond the normal "OFF" position brings 44 out of engagement with a recess in 13, enabling 13 to be unscrewed. Connection between plungers 16 and fixed flex terminals (33, Fig. 2, not shown) is by contact bar 22 having contacts 24 fixed to an insulating rod (23) urged into detent slots of different depths (29, 30, Fig. 2, not shown) in switch bar 17 contact being made between 24 and the terminal (33) in one position and not in the other. Push-fit insulating cover 35 covers the live parts so that none are exposed on disassembly. The invention may be used on bayonet or Edison screw lampholders.

Two resilient contact elements 53, 54 are clamped between notches 49, 50 in the walls 42, 43 and the walls 36, 37 such that prongs 67, 69 extend into the socket-housing compartments and prongs 68, 70 into the switch-housing compartments where they are contactable with fingers 60, 61 of the base contact 25. A switch 81 comprises a shank 80 rotatably mounted in grooves 79a, 79b in the casing halves with an actuating head 83, rotation causing the head to engage the prongs 68, 70 and move them into contact with the fingers 60, 61.

    • A plug and socket connector comprises resilient contacts which are adapted to be engaged in bayonet fashion. Electrical contact between each input terminal and a corresponding socket connector-pin is established by coupling two contact studs, one contact stud being carried by a conductive arm rigidly attached to a connector pin, the other being attached to an electrical supply lead. When a plug and socket are disengaged, the contact studs being coupled are positioned in different relative angular positions with respect to the axis of the plug socket. The contact studs are placed into a position of angular coincidence by rotating the plug with respect to the socket. At the end of the rotation of the plug, each arm is subjected to an abrupt pivoting movement in which it is displaced toward an oppositely acting contact stud as a result of a release of the energy stored during the rotation.
