[Class 3 (ii)] A display element forming part of a banner towed behind aircraft comprises a wholly or partly translucent casing of rigid material in the form of a character and containing illumin.- ating means. In the embodiment shown, the banner is built-up of a plurality of elements each comprising a casing X of light material such as synthetic resin or light metal provided with a window B opposite which is a reflecting surface G for directing outwardly light from incandescent lamps F carried in resiliently mounted sockets H. The casings are secured to straps M, the straps of adjacent elements being secured by buckles N and the straps of the leading element being connected to a tow-bar secured to a tow-line incorporating a cable for supplying current to the lamp leads L. In another arrangement, the casings are mounted on a perforated sheet carrying electric wiring. The illumination may be effected by discharge lamps. Alternatively, each casing may be filled with neon or like conducting gas through which a discharge is passed. The casings may be streamlined in a fore-and-aft direction.
