    • An infinitely variable four mode hydro-mechanical transmission has a planetary system including three planetary gear sets, four clutches and a reverse brake. A first hydrostatic unit is geared to the second row ring of the planetary system. A second hydrostatic unit is geared to the planet carrier via a first clutch in Modes One and Four. The second hydrostatic unit is geared to the second row sun of the planetary system via a second clutch in Modes Two and Three. A third clutch connects the planet carrier to the output in Modes One and Two. A fourth clutch connects the second planetary row sun gear to the output in Modes Three and Four. A reverse brake is attached to the third planetary row. When the reverse brake is engaged and both the third and fourth clutches are disengaged the third row sun and thus the transmission output is driven in reverse.

    • A method and system for controlling a transmission in a work machine is provided. The output of a hydrostatic transmission having a source of pressurized fluid is combined with the output of a mechanical transmission having at least one engaged clutch. An operational speed of an engine that provides an input to both the hydrostatic transmission and the mechanical transmission is sensed. The at least one clutch of the mechanical transmission is disengaged and the displacement of the source of pressurized fluid is modified when the operational speed of the engine drops below a stall limit. The disengagement of the at least one clutch and the modification of the displacement of the source of pressurized fluid allow the operational speed of the engine to rise above the stall limit.

    • A transmission comprises: an input shaft intended to be coupled to a motor; an output shaft; an epicyclic reduction unit with an input sun wheel, a ring gear and first and second output shafts respectively fast and slow; a first clutch for connecting the input sun wheel to the ring gear of the said reduction unit; an hydraulic variator unit coupled between the input shaft of the transmission and the input sun wheel; second and third clutches operable to connect the input shaft of the transmission with the ring gear of the epicyclic reduction gear unit to give respective transmission ratios of opposite sign, respectively for forward and reverse gears. The arrangement is such that when the output speed of the variator varies over a predetermined range on either side of zero, and the first clutch is disengaged and the second or third clutch is engaged, the first and the second output shaft of the epicyclic reduction unit have respective speeds which vary over respective ranges of contiguous values. Auxiliary clutches make it possible to achieve coupling of the output shaft of the transmission selectively to the first or the second output shaft of the epicyclic reduction unit with predetermined speed ratios.

    • A toothed selector clutch is provided to operate in a hydrostatic/mechanical, split-torque power-shift transmission comprising a four-shaft epicyclic-gearwheel transmission and an infinitely variable hydrostatic transmission arranged in parallel. The selector clutch is associated with a particular gearwheel stage and is operated to select a particular gear. Gear changes take place at synchronous speeds without loading the engaging gear during the change and without interruption of the transmission of torque from the rotating shaft to the gear being disengaged. The toothed selector clutch is a coaxial double differential clutch with a clutch carrier that is arranged in a rotationally and axially fixed manner on a clutch shaft. A double piston, which can be subjected to a pressure medium on both sides, is provided as a shift bridge and is operatively connected to the clutch carrier by toothing thereby permitting torque transmission and axial displacement. The shift bridge carries shift toothing on each of its axially opposite ends and is acted upon from two separately controllable pressure spaces. When the shift bridge is subjected to pressure from both ends simultaneously, it remains or moves into its neutral, central position. Engagement of one of the two gears associated with the clutch may be accomplished depressurizing the pressure space assigned to the other gear causing the shift bridge to move axially and engage the intended gear.
