    • The aim of the invention is to provide a particularly economical and environmentally friendly light source which preferably has a very long service life and the emission behavior of which in particular can be controlled or influenced with respect to the light source intensity and spectral emission. For this purpose, a light source (1) is provided comprising a vessel (3) that receives at least one emitting species (5) and comprising a device (7) for exciting the emitting species. Energy is introduced into the vessel (7) that receives the emitting species (5) by means of the device (7) for exciting the emitting species (5). At least one part of the emitting species (5) is excited by the energy, and light is emitted. Electromagnetic energy is introduced into the vessel (3) that receives the emitting species (5) by means of at least one component (11) which is surrounded by at least one ferrite material (13, 131, 132) and/or contains at least one ferrite material (13, 131, 132) and which acts as an electric coil. The intensity of the emission is influenced, in particular controlled, by changing the magnetic saturation of the at least one ferrite material (13, 131, 132).
