    • A combination glide test/burnishing head can be utilized in a glide test/burnishing system. The combination glide test/burnishing head includes two piezo-electric elements, which can be utilized in a passive mode as sensors for detecting contacts between the glide test/burnishing head and asperities on the surface of a magnetic recording disc. Contact between the glide test/burnishing head and disc asperities results in generation of a defect detection signal, which can be utilized by associated test logic to define the location of the detected asperities on the disc surface. The piezo-electric elements of the glide test/burnishing head can also be utilized in an active mode to cause yaw variation in the flight attitude of the glide test/burnishing head, in turn causing a burnishing pad on the glide test/burnishing head to be moved radially into contact with a detected disc asperity. Once an active, burnishing operation has been performed, the piezo-electric elements of the glide test/burnishing head are returned to passive mode, to determine if the burnishing operation was successful in removing the asperity on the disc surface. Combining the glide test and burnishing functions in a common head assembly allows the glide test and burnishing functions to be performed using a single actuator for the glide test/burnishing head, simplifying and reducing the cost of a glide test/burnishing system.

The optical transceiver module may include a shell that houses first and second optical subassemblies and an enclosure that cooperates with the shell in defining a covering for the optical transceiver module. The shield clip may comprise a body composed of conductive material. The body may include first and second vertical side members. The body may also include first and second shield members that are each configured to receive a corresponding nosepiece of one of the first and second optical subassemblies. The body may further include a bottom member that interconnects the first and second vertical side members and the first and second shield members.

    • A disk head fly height adjustment method includes positioning a disk head over a surface of a rotating data storage disk and dynamically altering a load point of the disk head by changing an electrical force applied to an active element mounted to a head-gimbal assembly. A data storage apparatus includes a head assembly having a data transfer head coupled to a gimbal and an active element coupling the head assembly and a suspension. The active element is configured to exert a force between the head assembly and the suspension in response to an electrical force applied to the active element. The active element can dynamically shift a load point of a disk head. Shifting the load point can alter the pitch of the disk head and, consequently, the fly height of the head.
