    • The proposed technology relates to methods and devices/nodes for monitoring items in physical vicinity of one another. For example, a method comprises forming (S1) a neighborhood-based network (3) comprising a plurality of items (2; 2a; 2b) to be monitored, where each item is provided with a respective communication device (10; 10a; 10b), and the neighborhood-based network (3) is based on a respective neighborhood of each respective communication device. The method further comprises checking (S2) the presence of each item within the neighborhood-based network. The forming (S1) and the checking (S2) are based on each communication device (10) broadcasting its own presence to other communication devices (10a; 10b) within its neighborhood, and each communication device (10) detecting other communication devices (10a; 10b) within its neighborhood. The method also comprises determining (S3) if an item is missing from the neighborhood-based network (3), based on each communication device (10) reporting to other communication devices (10a; 10b) within its neighborhood when a communication device is missing from its neighborhood, and when a communication device that has been reported as missing is detected in its neighborhood.

    • Methods and devices for maintaining a device-operated function. A first device (200) initially operates (2:1) as an active master with responsibility to execute the device-operated function by automatically performing one or more operation tasks according to certain operational parameters and gaining knowledge when performing the operation tasks. Meanwhile, a second device (202) is acting (2:2) as a passive standby device. When the first device (200) cannot or should not operate as the active master anymore, e.g. due to low battery, the responsibility is transferred (2:4) to the second device (202) by transferring the operational parameters and the knowledge from the first device (200) to the second device (202). Then, the second device (202) operates (2:6) as the active master with responsibility to execute the device-operated function according to the operational parameters and using the knowledge if required.

    • A technique for providing information derived from data traffic between a telecommunications network and the Internet (230) is disclosed. The telecommunications network provides mobile Internet access to a plurality of mobile subscribers (240) using IP addresses allocated to the mobile subscribers. As to a method aspect of the technique, data packets (402) in data traffic at an interface (222) between the telecommunications network and the Internet (230) are analyzed. Each analyzed data packet (402) includes an IP address allocated to one of the plurality of mobile subscribers (240). For each of the analyzed data packets (402), a subscriber identity is retrieved based on the IP address included therein using an allocation function (406) of the telecommunications network. The allocation function (406) associates subscriber identities to IP addresses. Information derived from the analyzed data packets (402) is stored in combination with the retrieved subscriber identities in a storing unit (216). An access interface (218) for accessing the stored information is also provided.
