    • A double-jointed bone bolt (1) for use in an apparatus for maintaining vertebra in a desired relationship. The apparatus has a rod (3) that extends substantially along the spine and one or more bone bolts. At least one of the bone bolts is double jointed. The double-jointed bolt has a mounting portion (42) with a hook or coarse threads to engage a vertebra, and the mounting portion is attached to a pivot post (43) in a manner that allows the pivot post to be rotatable about a common axis in respect to the mounting portion. The pivot post of the bone bolt is then pivotally attached to a connector portion (44) of the bone bolt that has machine threads upon which a surgeon may attach a clamp. (2) The clamp has a second bolt (4) and an arm. (5) The second bolt holds the rod and the arm to the clamp. The second bolt has a first channel (8) to attach to the rod, while the arm has a second channel (10) to attach the double-jointed bone bolt.

    • A connection assembly (1) between a spinal implant rod (A) and a vertebral anchor. The assembly has a longitudinal member (2), a housing (3), a rod interface washer (4), and a compression member (5). The longitudinal member has an aperture (6) at one end and a wedge (9) at the other. The housing has a passageway (8) to accept the shank of a bone screw (B) and a bore (17) to accept the wedge. The bore is open to the passageway so that when the wedge is pulled from the bore (17) it pushes against the shank of the bone screw, trapping the bone screw between the wedge and the sidewalls of the passageway. Threading a setscrew (5) into the aperture presses a spinal rod (A) against the washer (4), presses the washer against the housing (2), and pulls the wedge (9) against the shank of the bone screw. Further tightening of the setscrew then locks the bone screw and rod together.

    • A variable angle connection (1) between a spinal rod (A) and a vertebral anchor (B) with a clevis (3) to attach to the vertebral anchor, permitting the vertebral anchor to be longitudinally offset from the connecting point on the rod. The connection assembly has a bolt (2) with a stop (10) disposed near one end of the bolt and an aperture (6) for receiving a portion of the spinal implant rod at the other end. The assembly also has a clevis. The clevis defines a bore (7) to hold a portion of the vertebral anchor and the ears (8, 9) of the clevis have holes through which the bolt is located with the ears positioned between the stop and aperture of the bolt. The assembly also has a rod interface washer (4) positioned over a portion of the bolt, between the aperture of the bolt and the inside ear of the clevis. The rod interface washer is partly movable between the aperture of the bolt and the clevis, but the washer is fixed against rotating in relation to the bolt. Finally, the assembly also includes a screw (5) that threads into the side of the bolt and continues into the aperture of the bolt. The screw is used to push the rod toward the vertebral anchor so that the inside and outside ears of said clevis are pressed together and the clevis is tightened around the vertebral anchor.
