摘要： Olefins are produced by contacting an organic compound having at least one benzene ring with calcium metal, ethylenediamine, a low molecular weight aliphatic alcohol, and optionally a low molecular weight aliphatic primary amine, and/or an inert, abrasive particulate substance. The reduction is conducted at temperatures ranging from about -10.degree. C. to about 30.degree. C. or somewhat higher. Substantially all of the organic compounds are converted to corresponding cyclic olefins, primarily diolefins.

The adducts are epoxide-alcohol addition products of a polyaromatic and/or a mono-aromatic diol and a polyaromatic bis-glycidyl ether, and/or a monoaromatic bis-glycidyl ether and/or an alkoxy arylene bis-glycidyl ether, thioether or amine. The coatings which include amine resin, cross linking agent, grind resin and pigment exhibit excellent corrosion resistance.

An at least partially cured layer of the basecoat composition offers improved adhesion with a coating composition layer applied over it and cured, whether the coating composition layer applied over it is another layer of the basecoat composition itself or a layer of a clearcoat composition.

摘要： The invention relates to an economical method of making a polymer having reduced VOCs and coating compositions containing such polymers. In one embodiment, the method of invention requires providing a reactant mixture (a), providing a solvent mixture (b) comprising a reactive component (c) which is substantially free of any heteroatoms and is not a crystalline solid at room temperature and comprises (i) from 12 to 72 carbon atoms, and (ii) at least two functional groups, and subjecting the reactant mixture (a) in the solvent mixture (b) to polymerization conditions sufficient to polymerize reactant mixture (a) to provide a mixture (d) of a polymer (a′) in solvent mixture (b), wherein reactive component (c) under the polymerization conditions is substantially nonreactive: (1) with the components of reactive mixture (a), (2) in the polymerization of reactant mixture (a) and (3) with the polymer (a′). Coating compositions of the invention comprising polymers made by the disclosed method provide low VOCs without any reduction in application or performance properties.

The coating composition of the invention may be a clearcoat coating composition, preferably an automotive clearcoat coating composition. The invention further provides an article, such as an automotive vehicle, having a surface coated with a coating derived from the coating composition of the invention, particularly a composite coating having a basecoat layer and a clearcoat layer, and a method of producing such a coating on a substrate, particularly as a basecoat/clearcoat composite coating, with the coating composition of the invention preferably being at least the clearcoat of the composite coating. The coating composition of the invention provides especially low volatile organic content, with significant reductions of 25% or more from comparable previous coating compositions.

The resulting residue of the sterically-hindered monomer is present in the polymer, as well as in a cured coating (preferably an automotive coating) produced using a coating composition having the polymer therein. The presence of the residue of the sterically-hindered monomer imparts in the cured coating a resistance to environmental etching.
