    • A buckle of the type used to connect belts used for tying down cargo in vehicles. The buckle is formed of flat plate stock and has a structure adapted to withstand high compressive forces such as are applied to it when it is run over by loaded vehicles. The buckle operates on an overcenter principle, so that once it is locked further tension on the belts tends to keep the buckle locked. In using the buckle, initially the free end of one belt is threaded through the buckle and pulled to take up slack. The free end is jammed between the standing end of the belt and a portion of the buckle, preventing slippage. Next, the handle of the buckle is rotated approximately 180 degrees, which causes the standing part of the belt to be wound around the buckle, thereby placing the belt in tension. Towards the end of its throw, the handle of the buckle passes to an overcenter position, in which further tension in the belt locks the buckle more securely. A safety catch is provided to insure against accidental opening of the buckle in case the cargo shifts.

By forming a plurality of knot loops in sequence in a plurality of rows, each of which is in a predetermined x-y orientation, the manipulative operations for forming a plurality of hand tied knots is simplified. An inserted tension member is fed through each of the knot loops and the latter are tightened to form knots at the crossing point of the tension members.

    • A quick disconnect dual stud type of track tie-down fitting for use with a track having slots and lips includes an insert having a generally U-shaped body and including spaced integral legs arranged in parallel alignment. Cooperating with the insert is a retainer having apertures therein which receive the legs of the insert, the ends of the legs carrying studs which pass through the slots of the track and which can engage the lips of the track. Carried by the retainer and located between the studs is a locking nub which secures the tie-down fitting in the track by being received within a slot thereof while the studs are engaged with lips of the track adjacent to the slot. The retainer is biased into the locking position by springs cooperating with the legs of the insert to urge the retainer into the locking position. By forming the insert as an integral U-shaped member, the cost of the unit is substantially reduced while the overall structure is vastly simplified.

The parts are configured such that that upon engaging the hook and crossbar there is preferably an interference fit, allowing a major loop to be formed in the strap that will remain securely engaged even when there is slack in the strap. Additionally, the hook/buckle combination is preferably configured such that substantially rotating the hook relative the buckle is required to disengage the two. There is also preferably a second similar hook attached to the opposing end of a second adjustable strap, and a small twisted and/or folded loop built into the strap allowing a second major loop by engaging the second hook with the twisted and/or folded loop.

    • An anchor of the butterfly type for selectively connecting a strap, rope, chain, cable, or other device to a slotted cargo track includes two identical halves unattached to each other. Each half includes a back plate from which a foot extends under a flange on the track. The back plate is thicker than the foot. In one embodiment, lateral motion of the anchor within the track is limited by the edges of the slot in the track, while in another embodiment lateral motion of the anchor within the track is limited by contact of the toe of the foot against an undercut portion of the track underlying one of the flanges of the track. A pedestal arising from the foot engages one of the concave portions of the edge of a flange of the track to limit movement of the anchor along the track.

    • A releasable locking type buckle is made of two pieces of essentially flat material, the pieces forming two members which cooperate with preferably webbed type belts to form a securing assembly usable as a cargo securing device. One of the locking members receives a preferably webbed type belt fixedly secured thereto, while the other locking member includes a loop receiving portion, an end of which is fixedly secured. The second member is slidable along the first member between a locking position and an unlocking position. The loop includes a first leg positioned against the underside of the first member and is looped over the loop receiving portion of the second member with a second leg of the loop spaced from the first leg. By pulling the first leg of the loop, the second member is caused to slide along the first member with the web being gripped between the loop receiving portion and a fixed locking element of the first locking member, the interposed portion of the first leg of the loop being secured therebetween for as long as tension is applied. To release the buckle, the free end of the first locking member is lifted relative to the first leg of the loop.
