A base station engages in one or more selected pilot channel control operations as part of pilot channel optimization comprising a jump detection technique, operates power control on another channel other than the DPCCH, engages in delayed power control, engages in a soft-handoff power control in the instance of a boosted pilot channel, and resolves ambiguity in grant messages resulting from a pilot boost.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and method for a packet affirmative response.SOLUTION: In a communication system 10, one or more of a processor 100, a transmitter-receiver 160, and an antenna 170 detect a first number of packets on a first communication link. The detected first number of packets is, for example, zero packets, one packet, or plural packets, and is detected by comparing a reception signal on the first communication link with a predetermined threshold value. The detected first number of packets is dependent on an estimated number of packets. In a case where the power of the reception signal is greater than a predetermined threshold value on a single packet link, it is determined that one packet has been detected. In a case where the reception signal is greater than the predetermined threshold value on a double packet link, it is determined that two packets have been detected. This is also applied to a second communication link.
