    • Any type of pattern on each of two layers of fabric is recognized by a camera and the layers of fabric are orientated so that the patterns overlap in the transverse and longitudinal directions. The effects of speed-related fluctuations and pattern-related restrictions are reduced during signal generation. Two-dimensional images of both layers of fabric (7, 8) are produced by matrix cameras (39, 45) during a transport pause. The degree of pattern overlap of the layers of fabric is determined by two-dimensional cross-section analysis of the image points arranged in lines and columns, from which orientation correction values are derived. The distance between the edges of the layers of fabric is measured using a separate section of the matrix sensor determined according to the evaluation. The edge distance data are used to adjust the lower layer of fabric (8) continuously and the upper layer of fabric (7) as necessary, in function of the distance. By accepting slight inaccuracies and by restricting the calculation operations solely to the regions of interest, the total calculating time can be substantially reduced.

    • A known sewing machine has a transducer and an electronic evaluation system. The latter checks the threat tension determined by the transducer by comparing it with a threshold value dependent on the preceding stitch.
