    • PURPOSE: To discriminate the truth and the par of paper money by positioning a reflection sensor and a magnetic sensor to meet paper money along a passage which passes the center of paper money in a longitudinal direction along the longer measure of paper money. CONSTITUTION: The reflection sensor 24 is arranged just over the almost center of the paper money passage 4 so that a system is composed of a second optical transmitter 26 and a second optical receiver 28 which are arranged comparatively adjacently at the same side of the paper money passage. The reflection sensor 24 detects presence or absence of optical information of an object placed in the paper money passage 4 and is positioned so as to respond the presence or absence. The magnetic sensor 30 is provided in the vicinity of the reflection sensor 24 and generates an electric signal in resonse to the existence of magnetic information. Then, the reflection sensor 24, the magnetic sensor 30 and a permanent magnet 29 are positioned along the paper money passage 4 so as to scan the center part of optional paper money which passes through the paper money passage 4 by them. Thus, the truth of paper money is correctly discriminated.

    • PURPOSE: To obtain a system in which authenticity and denomination can be confirmed by detecting the characteristics of a paper money along a prescribed scanning line. CONSTITUTION: A light receiver 22 generates an electric signal indicating the presence of an object at an entrance 6 of a paper money path 4 by the interruption of a light beam moving from a light transmitter 20 to the light receiver 22. A magnetic sensor 30 is provided near a reflection sensor 24, and the magnetic sensor 30 generates the electric signal in response to the presence of the magnetic information of the surface of the paper money supplied just under the magnetic sensor 30. That is, one of the sections of the paper money is scanned by the sensor 30 which generates the electric signal, and a series of electric signal are generated in response to characteristics for confirming the paper money detected by the sensor 30 within the scanned section. Then, an interval between the generated electric signals is measured, each measured interval is classified into one of plural sets dependently of the length of the measured interval, and difference between the number of the intervals in one of the sets and the number of the intervals in another set so that the authenticity and the denomination of the paper money can be decided.

    • PURPOSE: To provide a system for confirming authenticity and face value of a cash. CONSTITUTION: This is a method for deciding the authenticity and face value of a cash including plural different divisions, and including characteristics for confirming the cash in each different division. This method includes a process for scanning one division by a sensor 24 which generates an electric signal, and generating a series of electric signals in response to the characteristics for conforming the cash detected by the sensor 24 in the scanned division, a process for measuring an interval between the generated electric signals, and classifying each measured interval to one of plural sets dependently of the length of the measured interval, and a process for deciding a difference between the number of the intervals in one set with the number of the intervals in another set. Also, this method includes a stage for comparing a prescribed constant with the difference, a stage for generating a signal indicating the authentically and unit of the cash based on the comparison of the difference with the prescribed constant, and a stage for adjusting the prescribed constant for adjusting precision for deciding the unit and the rate of acceptation/rejection.

    • The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for a money-operated, low-powered, vending and dispensing apparatus which is solely battery-powered and which can be utilized in the vending or dispensing of products or services. The present invention comprises at least one battery, a control system housed on a control board, money sensing and validating devices, circuitry to perform a battery power test and to indicate a low battery power condition, circuitry and devices to determine the acceptability of various types of money, or its equivalent, which could be accepted by the apparatus, and circuitry and devices to indicate such acceptability. The present invention further comprises a product delivery circuit and device, circuitry to indicate the activation, or lack thereof, of the product delivery device, and circuitry and a device to indicate when the apparatus is being serviced. The present invention utilizes many power saving components and devices, as well as power saving design and operational techniques, so as to facilitate low-powered operation. While the present invention is described, in its preferred embodiment, for use in an apparatus for the vending or dispensing of newspapers or other printed matter, it may find countless applications in other apparatus utilized in the vending or dispensing of products or services.
