    • A wireless transmitter system for use in maintaining a wireless link with a remote transceiver includes a beamforming transmit antenna structure and a power control unit for controlling transmit power levels. The system determines the direction of the remote transceiver and then generates a transmit antenna beam in that direction. The power control unit then determines the antenna gain of the generated beam and uses the antenna gain information to adjust the transmit power level of the system so that it does not exceed government mandated limits. In one embodiment, the average transmit duty cycle of the system is also used to adjust transmit power. The system is capable of achieving a maximum transmit power without exceeding applicable power limits.

    • Methods, apparatus and systems are disclosed for block encoding/decoding information wireless networks having narrow decoding latency restrictions. A method includes identifying a length of information to be sent in a block code and encoding the information to be sent in the block code into one or more codewords, where the number of codewords and the amount of information encoded within each codeword is adjusted based on the identified length and to achieve a similar codeword error probability for each codeword considering available decoding time for decoding a last codeword is less than available decoding time for decoding a first codeword. In certain implementations low density parity check (LDPC) encoding may be used in combination with OFDM to provide reliable communications in a high throughput WLAN.

    • Some OFDM communication systems may transport payloads or data blocks of varying lengths. In many cases, the end of the transmitted data block may not align with the end of an OFDM symbol, resulting in an unused portion of one or more OFDM symbols. Thus, for example, there may be one or more unmodulated (or unused) subcarriers in the final OFDM symbol for the data block. In many systems, this may be handled by zero-extending the data or repeating the data until the final OFDM symbol is filled. Unfortunately, simply data repeating or zero-extending to fill the OFDM symbol wastes valuable OFDM symbol resources. There may be a need for a technique to make more efficient use of an unused or unmodulated portion of OFDM symbols. Various embodiments are described to select or adjust transmission parameters.

    • A technique includes basing a discrete frequency transformation on the number of subcarriers in a predetermined set of subcarriers. One or more subcarriers of the set are assigned to modulate data, and the remaining subcarriers are not assigned to modulate the data. The discrete frequency transformation is performed only on the subcarriers assigned to modulate the data, and mathematical operations that are associated with the subcarriers not assigned to modulate the data are excluded from the transformation. The cyclic prefix or the cyclic extension can be obtained by extending the temporal operation of the DFT beyond the established symbol period, realising a continuous OFDM modulation.
