摘要： A head assembly (10) for an internal combustion engine. The assembly is comprised of a cast ceramic body (16) with a coefficient of thermal expansion less than 1.0 x 10 in/in/ F (lithium aluminum silicate) fitting over the cylinder block (11) of the engine to define a combustion chamber. The ceramic body has passages (18) for hot gases extending between the combustion chamber and a side wall of the body, but the body contains no passages for conventional water cooling. A metallic shell (15) sealingly clamps the ceramic body to the cylinder block of the engine; the shell supportably carries mechanical subassemblies (17) which extend into the the ceramic body for controlling the flow of gases therethrough. The shell carries at least part of the compressive loading imposed by the clamping.

A magnetic field sensor (100) is positioned across an air gap from a take-up reel mounted magnet (101) to sense the pulsating magnetic field and control operation of the sensing circuit (100). A magnetic field interrupting means (120) is caused to assume a non-interrupting position when the take-up reel (22) is rotated in its proper direction and to assume a magnetic field interrupting position between the magnet (101) and the magnetic field sensor (102) when the take-up reel (22) and magnet (101) are caused to be rotated in the opposite direction.

摘要： Cathodically electrodepositable coating compositions comprising an aqueous dispersion of self-crosslinkable resin. The self-crosslinkable resin is amine and epoxide functional and prepared by reacting epoxide resin with fatty amidopolyamine at about room temperature so as to form a partially crosslinked resin, wherein at least about 50 percent of the amine groups have been neutralized with a water soluble acid. The partially crosslinked resin can be deposited from the bath onto a metal substrate and cured at elevated temperatures to form a coating offering excellent corrosion protection and having excellent adhesion to the substrate.

A series of the plates (21) are stacked along the wall (14) with the smallest dimension (17) of the plates (21) aligned with the axis (49) of the cavity. The plates (21) have a ratio of the smallest dimension (17) to the largest dimension (16) in the range of 1:3 to 1:4. The largest dimension (16) of each of the plates (21) is less than the lateral dimension (18) of the interior wall (14) of the cavity to leave an annular space (15); the space is filled with a pseudo isostatic pressing medium. The assembly of plates (21) is hot pressed under sufficient pressure and heat to convert the plates (21) to substantially full density billets.

摘要： Fuel oil clouding caused by formation of wax crystals in diesel fuel at low temperatures, which clouding restricts flow through and may plug the fuel filter of a diesel engine powered motor vehicle causing poor drivability, power loss and eventual flameout, is obviated by a fuel oil heater unit (10) which can readily convert a non-heated diesel engine spin-on type fuel filter (24) into one containing an electric heater for heating fuel above its cloud temperature. The heater unit (10) includes a spacer (22) insertable between the fuel manifold (12) and the filter (24) of the engine. The spacer (22) has a diameter comparable to that of the manifold (12) and filter (24) to present a flush overall outside surface and is provided with a star-shaped temperature self-limiting PTC heater (44) having radially extending finger-like portions (46) between each pair of which is provided a flow passage (26) through which the fuel flows and is heated enroute to the filter (24) from inlet (14) of the manifold. In an alternate arrangement a modified fuel manifold (12') is provided and includes an integralbowl-shaped recess (72) constituting a fuel reservoir in which is immersed a flat strip-like spirally coiled electric resistance heating element (78) connected in series with a combination thermostat/heating element (80) and defining a spiral heating passage for the fuel from manifold inlet (14') to the filter (24').

摘要： A method of making a silicon nitride comprising object by use of a low density reaction bonded body. An uncompacted mixture of silicon powder and a fluxing agent is heated in a nitrogen atmosphere to react the mixture with the atmosphere to form a body consisting essentially of silicon nitride and having a dimension greater than and a density less than the finished product. The nitrided mixture is then hot pressed to produce a silicon nitride comprising object of desired dimension and density, which material is useful as a cutting tool material for machining metals.

摘要： A process for developing a coating film on a surface of a sheet of glass (16). Generally the sheet of glass is heated to a temperature in the range of 510-625 C. The heating may be as a result of the glass sheet being manufactured in a float chamber (20). The process is characterized by the step of engaging the surface of the heated glass sheet (16) with a powder spray composition from a powder composition supply device (12). The powder spray composition from the supply device (12) comprises a plurality of hollow, generally spherical particles. Each of the particles is formed from heat decomposable, organo-metallic salts of at least two metals. Preferred teachings indicate that the organo-metallic salts are salts of cobalt, iron and chromium. The powder spray composition may be applied to the sheet of glass by a spray nozzle (24).

摘要： A method for increasing the resistance to alkaline dissolution of a phosphate conversion coating on a corrodible metal surface by an improved zinc phosphate conversion coating together with articles coated by this method. The substrate is exposed to the phosphating solution by spraying or immersion to chemically effect a reaction with the substrate. First divalent metal cations are selected from magnesium and transition metals having a hydroxide with lower solubility in alkaline solution than zinc hydroxide. The other source of necessary metal cations is zinc and its cations are herein termed second divalent metal cations. In the preferred embodiment, the first divalent metal cations comprise about 84 to about 94 mole percent of the total first and second divalent metal cations in the bath. The deposited coating has first divalent metal cations (chemically combined with phosphate ions) present in an amount of at least 15 mole percent of the total first and second divalent metal cations in the coating.

摘要： A method and apparatus for initiating the energization of a regenerative apparatus used with a particulate filter trap having a porosity effective to extract particulates from the exhaust gas flow of an internal combustion engine. The method comprises: (1) sensing the actual pressure drop across the filter trap and sensing the pressure drop across an open channel simulative filter structure; (2) converting the pressure drops to proportional voltages and rationing the voltage of the filter trap pressure drop to the product of a constant and the voltage of the simulative filter structure pressure drop; and (3) using the resultant voltage ratio to control the energization of the regeneration apparatus when the output exceeds a predetermined allowable limit, e.g., 2-8 volts. The apparatus employs a simulative filter structure fabricated of the same monolithic honeycomb celled ceramic as is the filter trap, except that the structure has a controlled porosity effective to permit the passage of substantially all particulates in the gas flow therethrough.
