摘要： A method for determining if one audio signal is derived from another audio signal or if two audio signals are derived from the same audio signal compares reduced-information characterizations of said audio signals, wherein said characterizations are based on auditory scene analysis. The comparison removes from the characterisations or minimizes in the characterisations the effect of temporal shift or delay on the audio signals(5-1), calculates a measure of similarity(5-2), and compares the measure of similarity against a threshold. In one alternative, the effect of temporal shift or delay is removed or minimized by cross-correlating the two characterizations. In another alternative, the effect of temporal shift or delay is removed or minimized by transforming the characterizations into a domain that is independent of temporal delay effects, such as the frequency domain. In both cases, a measure of similarity is calculated by calculating a coefficient of correlation.

摘要： In one embodiment the present invention includes a circuit for automatically adjusting an output of an audio device. The circuit includes a memory circuit, a detector circuit, a control circuit, and an output circuit. The memory circuit stores configuration information. The detector circuit detects environment information related to an environment in which the apparatus is present. The control circuit selects selected configuration information from the memory circuit according to the environment information detected by the detector circuit. The output circuit receives an input audio signal and the selected configuration information, modifies the input audio signal according to the selected configuration information, and generates an output audio signal corresponding to the input audio signal as modified according to the selected configuration information.

In another alternative, the signal is divided into auditory events, and the signal is time scaled and/or pitch shifted within an auditory event. In a further alternative, the signal is divided into auditory events, and the auditory events are analyzed using a psychoacoustic criterion to identify those auditory events in which the time scaling and/or pitch shifting procession of the signal would be inaudible or minimally audible. Further alternatives provide for multiple channels of audio.

In typical embodiments, the monitoring method assumes that initial characteristics of the speakers (e.g., a room response for each of the speakers) have been determined at an initial time, and relies on one or more microphones positioned in the environment to perform a status check on each of the speakers to identify whether a change to at least one characteristic of any of the speakers has occurred since the initial time. In other embodiments, the method processes data indicative of output of a microphone to monitor audience reaction to an audiovisual program. 摘要： Embodiments are directed to speakers and circuits that reflect sound off a ceiling to a listening location at a distance from a speaker. The reflected sound provides height cues to reproduce audio objects that have overhead audio components. The speaker comprises upward firing drivers to reflect sound off of the upper surface and represents a virtual height speaker. A virtual height filter based on a directional hearing model is applied to the upward-firing driver signal to improve the perception of height for audio signals transmitted by the virtual height speaker to provide optimum reproduction of the overhead reflected sound. The virtual height filter may be incorporated as part of a crossover circuit that separates the full band and sends high frequency sound to the upward-firing driver.

摘要： Distortion artifacts preceding a signal transient in an audio signal stream processed by a transform-based low-bit-rate audio coding system employing coding blocks are reduced by detecting a transient in the audio signal strea m and shifting the temporal relationship of the transient with respect to the coding blocks such that the time duration of the distortion artifacts is reduced. The audio data is time scaled in such a way that the transients are temporally repositioned prior to quantization in a transform-based low-bit- rate audio encoder so as to reduce the amount of pre-noise in the decoded audio signal. Alternatively, or in addition, in a transform-based low-bit-ra te audio coding system, a transient in the audio signal stream is detected and a portion of the distortion artifacts are time compressed such that the time duration of the distortion artifacts is reduced.

摘要： A method for time aligning audio signal, wherein one signal has been derived from the other or both have been derived from another signal, comprises deriving reduced-information characterizations of the audio signals, auditory scene analysis. The time offset of one characterization with respect to the other characterizationis calculated and the temporal relationship of the audio signals with respect to each other is modified in response to the time offset such that the audio signals are coicident with each other. These principles may also be applied to a method for time aligning a video signal and an audio signal that will be subjected to differential time offsets.
