    • A method for inspecting a liquid crystal panel and an apparatus for processing images are provided to discriminate a defect in a liquid crystal display from foreign substances attached to a polarizing plate of an inspection device or the spreading plate of the inspection device and to prevent such foreign substances from being misjudged as a defect. When the alignment of the liquid crystal of a liquid crystal panel, arranged between the first and second polarizing plates so that the light from a light source can transmit the two plates, is maintained, the light-emitting surface of the first polarizing plate is photographed by a CCD camera(S1). Then the liquid crystal panel is removed, and the polarizing directions of the two polarizing plates are maintained at right angles. In the lighting-up state of the light source, the light-emitting surface of the first polarizing plate is photographed by the CCD camera(S2). Then the first polarizing plate is removed. In the lighting-up state of the light source, the light-emitting surface of a spreading plate which faces the CCD camera is photographed by the CCD camera(S3). Based on the photographed images, a defect portion in the liquid crystal panel is extracted(S4).
