    • A block-constrained Trellis coded quantization (TCQ) method and a method and apparatus for quantizing line spectral frequency (LSF) parameters employing the same in a speech coding system wherein the LSF coefficient quantizing method includes: removing the direct current (DC) component in an input LSF coefficient vector; generating a first prediction error vector by performing inter-frame and intra-frame prediction for the LSF coefficient vector, in which the DC component is removed, quantizing the first prediction error vector by using the BC-TCQ algorithm, and by performing intra-frame and inter-frame prediction compensation, generating a quantized first LSF coefficient vector; generating a second prediction error vector by performing intra-frame prediction for the LSF coefficient vector, in which the DC component is removed, quantizing the second prediction error vector by using the BC-TCQ algorithm, and then, by performing intra-frame prediction compensation, generating a quantized second LSF coefficient vector; and selectively outputting a vector having a shorter Euclidian distance to the input LSF coefficient vector between the generated quantized first and second LSF coefficient vectors.

    • A manure spreader device and method of distributing any of a variety of manure materials having varying consistencies are provided. The device and method embody a concept in which a plurality of elongated augers that are longitudinally positioned within a translatable bin deliver manure material to an outfeed location for translation of the manure material to a beater assembly which distributes the manure material onto a field or the like. A slippage characteristic is exhibited at the outfeed location whereby, when manure material within the outfeed location exceeds the expelling rate capacity of the beater assembly, slippage occurs between the manure material and rotating blades at the outfeed location so as to avoid overloading of the beater assembly by the particular manure material being spread.

    • A pair of generally parallel snapping rolls are disclosed which mount beneath a stripper plate having a fore and aft extending slot through which stalks of corn may pass. The snapping rolls rotate in opposite directions and serve to draw stalks downwardly until the ears thereof strike the stripper plate and are snapped free. Each snapping roll has longitudinally extending flutes, the flutes of one roll being interleaved with those of the second roll. On each roll, the odd numbered (1, 3, 5, etc.) flutes extend radially outward while the even numbered (2, 4, 6, etc.) flutes extend outward at a non-radial angle. Rotating the two rolls in synchronism thus results in the generation of a cyclic narrow and wide spacing sequence between opposing flutes. This cyclic action provides improved efficiency in the harvesting operation.
