    • To record/reproduce information on/from recording media by laser beams whose powers are optimized for individual recording media respectively. In addition to an information recording region, a calibration region is provided in each recording medium. A wobble is formed in the calibration region in order to change the amplitude of the waveform of a reproducing signal from the calibration region. Preceding the recording in the information recording region, signals are recorded in the calibration region while a laser power is changed and the recorded signals are immediately reproduced. The reproduced signal waveforms are evaluated and an optimum laser power for recording is determined. When the signals are reproduced, signals which are recorded in the calibration region beforehand are reproduced while a laser power is changed and an optimum laser power for reproduction is determined.
