    • Embodiments of the present invention provide a device, system and method for providing high flow therapy interfaces for use in the treatment of respiratory conditions and in assisted respirations. In an embodiment of the invention, a nasal cannula for delivery of respiratory gases can include at least one nasal insert and at least one flange coupled to the at least one nasal insert where the at least one flange is configured to partially impede the egress of respiratory gasses delivered to an upper airway of a patient is provided. In another embodiment, a flange has a shape selected from the group consisting of a slotted, vented or slitted design and configured to partially impede the egress of respiratory gasses. In yet another embodiment, an oral interface for delivery of high flow therapy to the upper airway of a patient can include a gas diffuser that includes a terminus housing having a plurality of holes to allow the delivery of respiratory gases. In yet another embodiment, a high flow therapy interface includes at least one nasal cannula and at least one oral interface in fluid communication with the at least one nasal cannula, the oral interface can include at least one port for delivery of respiratory gases to the mouth of a patient.

    • A shield is provided for a surgical scalpel having a handle and a blade secured thereto. In one embodiment, the shield is slidably engaged with the blade, and movable between a position covering the cutting edge of the blade and a position exposing the cutting edge of the blade. An actuation mechanism is coupled to the shield for moving the shield between the position covering the cutting edge and the position exposing the cutting edge. In another embodiment, the shield is pivotally and frictionally engaged to the blade while still allowing the shield to be moved between a position covering the cutting edge of the blade and a position exposing the cutting edge of the blade.     • A nasal continuous positive airway pressure apparatus includes a pair of cannula each having an inflatable cuff to position the cannulae within the nares of a patient. The cannulae are connected to a source of positive air pressure to provide continuous positive nasal airway pressure. The cuffs may be inflated by providing cuff apertures in the cannula so that the positive airway pressure during inhalation and exhalation maintain the cuffs inflated and the cannulae positioned within the nares during treatment. Alternatively, the cuffs may be separately inflated. The apparatus includes an inflatable air strap harness to position and hold the nasal cannulae device relative to the patient's head. The inflatable air strap harness is soft and flexible and comfortable for the patient to wear. The air strap is inflated and secured, such as with a hook and loop belt, surrounding the patient's head with the cannulae inserted into the patient's nares. The cuffs are inflated and air pressure applied to the conduit to administer treatment. The air strap is inflated by the same air pressure being applied to the patient's airway or is inflated by a separate source such as a hand pump.
