    • Disclosed is a novel sugar alcohol-modified organopolysiloxane compound which enables to obtain a nonionic surfactant usable in wide applications. This sugar alcohol-modified organopolysiloxane compound is effectively imparted with hydrophilicity by using only a small amount of a precursor having a sugar alcohol residue. Also disclosed is a method for producing such a novel sugar alcohol-modified organopolysiloxane compound. Specifically disclosed are a sugar alcohol-modified organopolysiloxane compound represented by the formula (1) below, and a method for producing such a sugar alcohol-modified organopolysiloxane compound. (In the formula (1), R1 represents a hydrocarbon group having 1-8 carbon atoms; X represents a group represented by the formula (2) below; Y represents a -R4O(AO)nR5 group (wherein AO represents an oxyalkylene group having 2-4 carbon atoms; R4 represents a divalent hydrocarbon group having 3-5 carbon atoms; R5 represents a hydrogen atom, a hydrocarbon group having 1-24 carbon atoms or an acyl group having 2-24 carbon atoms; and n = 1-100); R2 represents R1, X or Y; and a = 0-700, b = 0-100, c = 0-50 and when b = 0, at least one of R2's is X.) (In the formula (2), R3represents a divalent hydrocarbon group having 3-5 carbon atoms; and d = 1-2.)
