Openers etc.; feeding openers.-In an arrangement for untwisting and opening ropes &c. of fibres for upholstery &c., in which the rope &c. is passed through a tube in a rotary head and rotated against a fixed comb, a rope &c. of fibre is passed through a substantially straight tube 9 extending in a radial plane at an acute angle near the surface of a conical head and emerging at the rear of the cone, which is overhung on the shaft of a driving motor. A fixed comb 11 is mounted on a bar 12 adjusted by a screw 16. A fan 4 is mounted on a hub 3 on the head and rotates behind a screen 5. The fan is arranged to draw the dust through the screen when rotating in either direction and to discharge it into a chamber 27 below the platform 25. A sliding plate 29 uncovers one of two apertures leading to the chamber 27 in accordance with the direction of rotation of the fan. The pull of the rope &c. due to the rotation of the head is sufficient to draw it through the tube 9, which may be provided with a liner 9 to suit the size of rope, and the feed device comprises a pair of discs 20 mounted loosely on a shaft 18 and pressed together by a spring. A guide roller 23 carried in pivoted arms may be provided to rest on the rope above the discs 20. A set of teeth 17 may be provided on the head 1 to clean the comb 11.
