摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a boot, such as a snowboard boot, having an outer shell including an elastic upper and a harness assembly disposed in the outer shell.
SOLUTION: The harness assembly wraps about a user's ankle, includes a plurality of cord keepers. A cord for example, a lace or a stainless steel cable slidably engages the cord keepers, for tightening the harness about the user's ankle. A tensioning mechanism such as a spool mechanism or a lace keeper is attached to the elastic upper and engages the cord, such that the user can releasably tension the cord. The cord extends through an aperture in the outer shell whereby the user can tighten or loosen the harness without removing the boot. In an embodiment, the tensioning mechanism is a lace locker fixedly attached to the shell tongue, wherein the tongue includes apertures disposed near the bottom of the lace locker to slidably accommodate the cord.

摘要： A boot for use with a snowboard having a binding for attachment to the boot. The boot includes a base, a highback, and an upper. The base includes a binding-receiving plate for attaching the boot to the binding on the snowboard. The base also has toe and heel ends. The base is formed with a toecap at the toe end and has a heel counter at the heel end. Tread projects from the bottom of the base for traction when the boot is not attached to the snowboard. The highback extends upwardly from the heel counter of the base. The highback provides aft support to the user. The upper is fixedly attached to the base and is arranged and configured to receive the foot and ankle of the user. The upper has a rearward side adjacent the highback. The upper is more flexible than the base and the highback. A base strap is connected to opposing sides of the base and extends across a portion of the upper. The binding disclosed includes a frame for attachment to the snowboard, a first coupling to secure the forward end of the boot, and a second coupling to secure the rearward end of the boot. The couplings are releasable with arms that extend from the sides of the frame. The couplings that secure the forward end of the boot may include either a set of jaws or a simple hook. Both sets of couplings hold the boot, within the sole of the boot, along an axis near the longitudinal center axis of the sole of the boot.

摘要： A conventional (strap) binding assembly for use with a snowboard. The binding assembly comprises a frame (120) having a base portion (122) that receives a snowboard boot. A pair of side walls (124) extend upwardly from either side of the base, and a high back portion (24) extends upwardly from the rearward end of the base. An ankle strap assembly (130) having a first ankle strap (131) attached to one side of the frame and a second ankle strap (135) attached to the other side of the frame, is provided, including a clasp (140) for adjustably securing the first ankle strap to the second ankle strap. In some embodiments the first ankle strap is attached to the frame with a biased hinge assembly (150), biasing the distal end (131b) of the strap away from the frame. In a preferred embodiment, a toe strap assembly (160), functionally similar to the ankle strap assembly is also provided, disposed forwardly of the ankle strap assembly.

The bases have toe ends and heel ends. Tow caps 30 are formed at the toe ends of the bases 24 and heel counters 32 are formed at the heel ends. Treads 34 for movement when the boots are not attached to the snowboard project from the bottoms of the bases.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a versatile snowshoe design that enables different configurations and materials of aft sections to be secured to the nose section.SOLUTION: A snowshoe 35 with binding suspended by tension straps secured to a frame is assembled from a generally U-shaped nose 36, and an aft section 44 which can be a midsection and a tail. In one embodiment, the nose 36 has sufficient strength to resist inward pulling under tension to suspend the binding 40 resiliently, without significant strength contribution from aft portions of the frame. The aft portion 44 of the snowshoe includes traction elements, i.e., rows of teeth, positioned to engage into snow and ice. An important aspect is that the nose 36 and aft sections 44 are non-integral and very dissimilar in cross section, in a suspended-binding snowshoe.
