摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an X-ray tube cooling system capable of achieving further high cooling efficiency, and of preventing excessive thermal stress to a coolant.
SOLUTION: This X-ray tube cooling system utilizes a shield structure that is connected between a cathode cylinder and an X-ray tube housing and is disposed between an electron source and a target anode. The shield has a plurality of cooling fins to improve overall cooling of the X-ray tube and the shield so as to extend the life of the X-ray tube. When immersed in a reservoir of the coolant, the fins facilitate improvement of heat transfer from the shield to the coolant. The cooling effect thereof is further augmented by a convective cooling system provided by a plurality of passages formed within the shield. A cooling unit takes fluid from the reservoir, cools the fluid, and then circulates the cooled fluid through cooling passages. The coolant is then output from the passage and directed over the cooling fins. The passages are oriented to provide a greater heat transfer rate in certain sections of the shield than in other sections.

SOLUTION: The shield structure is made of thermally conductive material and placed in the discharge space between an electron source 16 and a rotating anode target 20. The shield structure is formed by a concave top surface 21 facing the electron source 16, a flat top surface 23 facing the anode target 20, and inner and outer walls 25, 27 (wherein a dimension of the inner wall 25 is longer than that of the outer wall 27 substantially in a certain direction). The inner wall 25 surrounds a beam collecting aperture. The heat transfer device is placed in a beveled portion of the shield structure. The heat transfer device includes an extended coiled wire 30 formed from thermally conductive material and conductively attached to the knurled interior of the shield structure to transfer heat to the cooling liquid passing through an inflow chamber 24 and an outflow chamber 24 of the shield structure 22.

In one embodiment the electron shielding member includes a body that defines a bowl-shaped aperture having a narrowed throat segment. The body of the electron shielding member includes a first body portion, a second body portion, and a disk portion. These portions cooperate to define the bowl and the throat segment. The throat segment and the lower portion of the bowl are composed of a heat-resistant material and correspond with the regions of the electron shielding member that are impacted by relatively many backscattered electrons from the anode surface.

摘要： A radiation source is disclosed comprising a source of charged particles that travel along a path. Target material lies along the path to generate radiation upon impact by the beam. A magnet is provided to deflect the beam prior to impacting the target. The magnet may generate a time-varying magnetic field or a constant magnetic field. A constant magnetic field may be varied spatially across the beam. The magnet may be an electromagnet or a permanent magnet. In one example, deflection of the beam results in impact of the beam on the target along a plurality of axes. In another example, portions of the beam are differentially deflected. The source may thereby irradiate an object to be scanned with more uniform radiation. The charged particles may be electrons or protons and the radiation may be X-ray or gamma ray radiation, or neutrons. Scanning systems incorporating such sources, methods of generating radiation and methods of examining objects are disclosed, as well.
