摘要： A hinge fastens a display screen to a keyboard base, and uses a frictional force generated by one or more compressed friction washers to control angular motion of the display screen with respect to the keyboard base. The hinge includes two shoulders defining inwardly-facing flat abutment surfaces separated by a first distance, the two shoulders being disposed on the keyboard base, and a knuckle having a pair of outwardly-facing flat abutment surfaces separated by a second distance which is less than the first distance, the knuckle being disposed on the display screen. Also included in the hinge is at least one compressible friction washer, disposed between the knuckle and the two shoulders, and having a thickness which is greater than a difference between the first distance and the second distance, but which is compressible to less than the difference. Each of the two shoulders, the knuckle, and the at least one compressible friction washer has an alignable throughbore. A pin fits through the alignable throughbores of the two shoulders, the knuckle, and the at least one compressible friction washer.

摘要： A printer controller in a printer having at least one detachable print device sends data to a host processor that is representative of the characteristics of a presently attached detachable print device and receives commands from the host processor. In response to the received commands, the printer controller controls a printer function according to the characteristics of the attached print device. The received commands include print' head driving parameters corresponding to the characteristics of the attached print device. The print head driving parameters may include parameters that modify values of pre-stored print head driving parameters loaded into the printer at the time of manufacture, or the print head driving parameters may include actual parameter values that are registered for use by the printer during actual printout.

摘要： A printing method for use with a printer which reads and then outputs to a printer head a fixed number of bits at a time, permits the printer to use a printer head having a number of e.g. nozzles which is different from the fixed number of bits. Bit data corresponding to an image band to be printed is obtained, the band including multiple pixel arrays, the pixels in each pixel array being arranged in a manner similar to the nozzles. In a first loading step, bit data for m pixels of an i-th pixel array are loaded into a register in the printer head. In a second loading step, bit data for n pixels of an (i+1)-th pixel array are loaded into the register. Finally, the printer head is caused to print an array of dots based on the contents of a register which includes the bit data loaded pursuant to the first and second loading steps, the printed array of dots corresponding to the i-th pixel array. Whether a printer head is a monochrome or a color printer head is detected, with translation of color image data into monochrome image data controlled to occur only if the input image data is color image data and the detection means has detected a monochrome printer head.

摘要： A scalable edit window 30 and position indicators 31, 32 displayable on a display of an electronic typewriter are provided. The width of the scalable edit window 30 adjusts in accordance with the paper size or size of the recording medium selected for printing the keyed-in characters, or in accordance with a value provided by the operator. The height of the scalable edit window 30 adjusts in accordance with the font size of keyed-in characters. The keyed-in characters are displayed in the scalable edit window 30 in a font size and appearance as the characters will be printed on a recording medium. The displayable position indicators include a horizontal ruler 31 and a vertical ruler 32. The horizontal ruler 31 is adjusted in accordance with the maximum printing capability of the system printer or the width of a recording medium used for printing the keyed-in characters. The vertical ruler 32 is adjusted in accordance with the font size of the keyed-in characters or the length of the recording medium. Also included is a scaled image 33 of a recording medium which facilitates operator visualization of the printed document.
